Hello everyone,
Poor Mr. Blue's right ear has been bugging him for a few days. It seems to really be itching him, and he's been scratching at it enough to make it bleed in the outer part. The vet took a sample of some of the dried "crud" to look at in the microscope, and gave me some Tresaderm drops for him. She thinks it's his allergy itchies in his ear, so hopefully these drops will help. She wants me to use them in both ears to keep the other one from getting so bad. What exactly is "Tresaderm"? I tried doing a search on it, and didn't find anything. He was really squirming a lot when the vet was looking at it, so she called someone else in to help me hold him. When we were getting ready to go, I told him it was time for a "field trip" to the doctor, and he gets so excited! He was so impatient that he was waiting at the garage door and treated me to a hound dog howl or three while I was getting my things together; the vet and tech were very pleased that he was howling to see them His dog bite site has really healed well. His fur is growing back, and you have to look pretty carefully to see the scar. As I was chatting about it with the vet, she said the only cases of dogs biting another dog, that she's seen, happen exactly like ours did; someone walking their dog on leash and another one running loose attacking it.

How is Mr. Blue's ear doing , Mary? I found some info on Tresaderm - it's a broad spectrum medication with Thiabendazole as a base which targets ear mites and fungi (yeast and molds) combined with an antibiotic (Neomycin) and a steroid ( dexamethasone). Here's a link to info:

Hope his ear is better by now.
Roxy was bitten on the nose the same way - we were walking in our neighborhood and a guy had his dog off leash in his front yard. When we walked by, the dog charged and bit Roxy. Her wound healed without any problems and Nancy and I became good friends with the guy and his dog over the years - Jack still feels guilty that his dog bit Roxy even though both dogs are gone now. Chemistry between dogs is a hard thing to figure out - sometimes everything seems fine when new dogs meet each other then without warning , one or both of them gets bent out of shape for no apparent reason. Glad to hear Mr. Blue's bite has healed well.

Hi jdf; thanks for asking! His ear is doing really well. I stopped giving him the drops after a couple of days, because the vet said to use them "as needed." It's nice to have them if/when those itchies come back! I'm assuming they will, unless we get a deep freeze tonight The vet also warned me that his allergies will probably worsen as he ages. I hope not, for his sake! It's good to be forewarned, though!

Glad he's ok, Mary- Honey gets that, too..itchy ear, then gets bloody from scratching. Am getting Z- for it and it is a constant thing to keep it ok...she hates the drops! Makes me feel awful as she runs away from me after
