kitty keeps peeing in my bed!

Post by just1alice »

I saw there was a post similar to this one written a short while ago, but being that this just happened (about five minutes ago) I am seriously looking for help!!

So I've had Gracie for about 9 years, and for most of that she lived in my parents' house (with me, of course). A little over a year ago, I moved to Brooklyn and brought her with me, and while she seemed stressed about the move, she adjusted alright. Then she began peeing in my bed, about once a week, and I couldn't stop the problem.

A few months ago I moved to a new apartment and she seems much happier here, but then about a week ago she started doing it again, the most recent occurence about 5 minutes ago. I know that in the previous post someone said not to show her that I'm angry, but how else can I let her know that it's something she shouldn't do? If I just ignore it, won't she continue the same behavior? This is extremely frustrating, as I usually discover it right when I'm ready to go to bed, and it's not exactly easy to snuggle up for a good night's sleep when your sheets/blanket/matress are soaked in cat piddle.

HELP!!!! I love my cat and I hate being angry with her, but I really can't let this continue!

Get your cat to a vet for a checkup. Your cat is telling you that something is wrong. This is *very* common behavior in cats with urinary tract issues, such as urinary tract infection and crystals. These are potentially deadly in cats. Also, stress can often play a part in bringing these issues to light. Do not assume it is behavioral until you have ruled out physical problems. Also, you need to have blood work done (your cat is considered geriatric) to rule out things such as kidney disease and diabetes. Please let us know what that vet says. Do not delay any longer. Good luck. kk

It's not really a fix, but I've found that using the cheap, extra large, heavy duty shower curtains from Wal-Mart to be a BIG help. It's something of a deterrent, and it keeps the bedding dry. The extra large is just big enough for queen size, and I put it on as soon as I get up.

is she using the litter box regularly (urinating)? has her drinking habits changed at all?

if your cat is suffering from a uti or other serious health issue, this has only made the bed a noncomforting area for her and thus she is going somewhere else.

please have a vet check her out asap for a possible uti, they dont go away on their own and only get worse.
