Winnie had her stitches taken out today
and all is well. Vet gave her Proin for the incontinence, but no promises.. Hill's recommended that she stay on d/d for her stones, and I asked him about a homemade version of it, seeing as she did develop another stone while on it. He did volunteer that another company makes a stone diet and said he would look into it (I already knew that), and we both agreed to to discuss it when the analysis comes back. So I chose to put the parvo stuff on a back burner for a bit...I got a notice that Java is due for a parvo and I tore it up. I think I will discuss it when the next dog (out of 3) comes up for all shots. I would welcome any comments...

and was put on d/d as an acceptable substitute, and Hill's still sticks by it.

Did she try to bite at/lick/scratch her stitches? Good luck on the food thing; I wish I knew anything about prescription diets that would help!

There are several different veterinary diets for this purpose, and I suspect that she is allergic to an ingredient in the Hill's, but that doesn't mean you can't try another veterinary version, such as Purina clinical management, Walthams, IVD, etc.

Mary, she was a pretty good hound!
I know it itched, and I caught her her licking a few times. The hardest part is the incontinence...she didn't know what she was doing. She'd be sound asleep, wake up and be wet. Then she would look at me with this quizzical look, as if to say, Mom, did you squirt me with the hose...if you did, I am not going to look at you for the next half hour. You might have to know a Basset to understand that one! At the Vet's, she was so good....until the Vet left to get meds...I am giving her lots of love, and all of a sudden, she turned her head, eyes went elsewhere, and I knew she was mad at me for bringing her there. I have a good sense of humor, unfortunately, so does she!

I would be willing to make her food, when I can. At 10 years old, she does not need to have this happen again....Her blood work was fine this time....I worry about next time...Even a similar homemade diet may not work, but at least I would feel I tried the best I could.
The only homemade equivalent to the Hill's Rx is the hypoallergenic diet, renal, and liver diets. Otherwise, I would ask your vet about IVD or Purina and compare ingredients. You really can't surpass the quality of the veterinary diets for this purpose. If you can compare ingredients and single out the one culprit from the Hill's, chances are, you can find another suitable veterinary diet by Purina, IVD or Walthams.

in addition to all the above make sure that she::
always has water available...no matter what type food she is on,she has to keep that bladder and thosde kidneys working...it appears that this may make her urinate more but it is necessary...i feel sure the incontinace will cease.
