Eye problems

Post by NancyC »

Our 2 and 1/2 year old domestic shorthair has squinty eyes and a dry nose. She is constantly squinting. We've already asked the vet and received no real assistance with this. The vet thought that this might be either herpes or clamidia. She is an indoor cat but may have been exposed at birth or at the vets. She is healthy otherwise.

your current vets appraisal is somewhat bothersome to me. i am not familar with what this might be, but i strongly suggest another vet visit to a different clinic.

how long has this been going on? any changes in her living area recently? indoor only?

may want to also check vital signs and emergency symptoms.

If it is chlamydia, calicivirus or rhinotracheitis, your vet could have done a swab cytology to confirm, also could have done a thorough eye exam (and again, a swab from eye exudate), plus dye test to rule out foreign body, tear or scratch, inflammation or viral. Has she been vaccinated?

I suggest seeing another vet immediately.
