How Can I stop Her Climbing onto our roof?

Post by Cara »

Hello, We have a tree in our backgarden and it is right next to the roof, our cat Jenny climbs up this tree and jumps onto the roof. She always forgets the way down and we have to go out and call her. Today she was stuck on the roof again and in an attempt to jump back to the tree, she got onto the branch and then she fell and landed on the grass on her feet. Now she is fine but was abit scared, But what we wanted to know is... Is their anything we can do to stop her getting up this particular tree and onto the roof?
Thankyou From Cara

keep her inside?? Seriously, cats are much safer if they are kept inside and contrary to the believe that they won't be happy, they can be very happy indoors if given enough attention and toys to keep them occupied :) Otherwise I know of no way to keep her from getting up there.

or cut the branches that she leaps from, probably won't work but will make you possible decide the she should stay inside and enjoy the views from a windowsill

You took the words right out of my mouth!

As Tina said, cats are so much safer indoors! Your cat would be much more likely to live a longer healthier life if kept indoors. The dangers outside are numerous; other animals, cars, weird people, jumping off the roof (couldn't resist  ), disease, etc, etc.

Davet had a nice suggestion; making a nice indoor play area for your cat. If your cat has a nice windowsil to perch on, and lots of toys, she would be just as happy and a lot safer!

I wish you and your kitty the best!

I agree with inside, and you can get a great cat tree even with wood trunks to climb on!!

Maybe cutting the branches is a good idea too, to eliminate he climibing or another animal from going on to the roof.

I have some links on "Indoor Kitties" under the Feline section of my website (Debbie's Feline Health, listed under Favorites on the menu on the left side of this board) that should offer some good tips on convincing your kitty that she should stay indoors. I hope something will help.
Kitty kisses,
Debbie
