bella's eye

Post by talula509 »

This morning i noticed that bella's haw was halfway over her eye and she was very squinty. Thinking back i realized that the last few days her left eye has been squinting a bit. I called the vet and made and appointment for this afternoon and went about my morning business. well after awhile i noticed that she her eye was looking worse, redder and cloudy, and she was trembling a bit (like she was cold or frightened) and she was just not doing anything....she'd take a few steps and then just lay down, she'd seek me out, sit on me and purr (very unusual for the daytime). I also noticed that she hadn't eaten much. So i called the vet and took her in immediately. She didn't have a temp (high normal....102.something), her vitals were fine, etc. he did a stain on her eye and didn't find any ulcerations or anything. He decided that it was probaby a minor infection and gave me some eye cream to put on it. He couldn't give me a reason for the shakeyness other than her eye hurt. He did draw some pre-op blood since she's getting spayed next tuesday and said if there was something weird in the bloodwork he'd call tomorrow. She's been super tired all day, and is sleeping right now....she still doesn't have much appetite (usually if i give her tuna she eats it ALL, she only ate a bit when we got home), but her breathing and stuff still seems normal. Sorry this has gone on so long, but i was wondering if any of you could give me an idea about the trembling, loss of appetite, etc. is this just normal "my eye is really hurting me" behavior? Could he have missed something? Why would this only occur in one eye? Could it be an allergy of some sort? we had a very long, large dust storm here yesterday and alot of it ended up in the house..could that have anything to do with it? I know i worry too much, but hey.....can't blame me, huh! Thanks for your help

Amy~

You are right to worry, I do too.

Follow the vets advice, it could be allergies to the dust.

See what the bloodwork says, and I would stop feeding tuna unless for a treat, it blocks vitamin E etc. Just a high quality kitten food, either canned or dry or both.

Let us know how she is doing.

Well, her eye problem has begun to clear up (or so it seems...just as i was beginning to suspect glaucoma or something the eye opened up and the cloudiness went away). We just got back from the vet, where she spent the day being spayed, so she is none to happy, and mamma here is worried sick about her. I can tell that she is in pain...or uncomfortable, as i gave her her pain meds when we got home. Since this is my first kitty, i don't really know what to expect, or what is normal. Right now she's just sleeping. earlier she was trying to walk around but seemed to only be able to go backwards (maybe the pain?). and she was tensing her muscles and shaking a bit, but now that she has fallen asleep that has stopped. Basically i'm just sitting here watching her, keeping an eye on her breathing and stuff...and feeling awful for her. How long will i be doing this? Not sure if i'm up to it emotionally ;) Does what i've described sound normal? is there anything else i should be aware of or watch for besides checking the sutures?

Thanks!!

Try to keep her from jumping and put a nice soft blanket or pillow for her to lay on. She should start to eat and within a day or two. If not, please call the vet back!! Watch for vomiting or extreme pain, and she should be able to walk normally. Maybe she is just weak and afraid to walk forward, but keep an eye on this.

My girls ate the next day when spayed, but all cats are different.
