My kitty is as wild as a buck!!! She needs discipline!!

Do you have any ping pong balls?
If you don't might i suggest you get a dozen or so?
Kittens will play for HOURS with them... and they stay on the floor too...

I think the double sided tape will work, but you're better off just getting a kitty condo and a couple of boxes...

But you know what will really solve most of your problems... another kitten... Then your present kitten will have company and you'll find that they'll entertain each other most of the time.... That's what we did:D

As far as keeping the kitty entertained I'd like to recommend what Yzma suggested to me in another thread--put a ping pong ball in the bathtub. My Neo loves playing soccer in the tub and will do so for a long time as long as I'm in the general area. If he can't see or hear me he does hop out to find me, though I don' t know if most kittens are as inclined to know where their human is at all times. (I think my guy is starting to grow out of that, actually.)

Hey all! My young kitten (4 months) is so frisky!! I know that it's completely normal for young kittens to be rambunctious and wild, but lately, it's been getting a little out of hand. I mean, I love it when she is playful, and I think that she just gets so excited when me and my husband come home that she just goes wild wanting our attention. (We are gone a lot, working.)

We went out of town for a couple of days this week and when we came back, we found that she had gotten up on the dinner table and knocked a glass of water off, and the glass was shattered and there was water all over the floor. And she tore up a fake plant in my living room. Is she doing this for attention, or what?

I want to teach her that being up on the dinner table is NOT acceptable, and I have been using the water bottle when I see her on the table. But when we aren't home, I know she gets up on there and there is noone here to use the water bottle to let her know that is a no no.

She really does need some discipline. I love her spunk and playfulness, but I don't want her being destructive. I want to teach her what things are acceptable and what are not. She knows what "no" means, but I guess I spoil her so much that she thinks she can get away with it.

What can I do to brake her from climbing on the table? And how can I teach her a little discipline??

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hi....i too have the same problem...except it plays constantly when its awake...it gets into mischief, and btw pushing it away or putting it down on the floor doesnt work....this playing crap is really annoying at night 4 am 2am dont know what to do....tryed using water bottle on the cat...all i can say is it has "no fear" no matter how much i squirt it

take some time to read through other posts (including this one) for alot of advice from people who have had to revert to various forms of loving discipline in order to teach rules of the house to their cats.

I guess what everyone is trying to say in their kitty-new-age way is that the punishment should fit the crime. On top of the table....I don't know, most cats seem to do that.

I've always found putting lots of things on the countertops or tables and my cats quit jumping up there. They saw there was no room for them and after the first few times (don't put glasses, of course) they stopped doing it.

I do use squirting water when the cats are fighting. I don't mean sparring, I mean biting and screeching. If your kitten bites you or claws you....you say," No!" and put her down and ignore her for about 10-15 minutes. Repeat until necessary. My very bitey black kitty understood that and now he doesn't bite.

After a while she will understand. Playing with her for 10 minutes twice a day in very active play (like her chasing a toy) will really calm her down. My one kitty was crazy until we did that and he slept through the night for the first time and really calmed down.

Hello, N. J. I am very new to this forum but have found it to be very helpful. And to Traci and the rest I says thanks Dolly is perfectly fine now. Back to your problem though, I know the flustration that can come with very frisky kitties because Dolly was one and ever now and then still is, she is now a year old. I am sure some won't agree with my method but when she first started jumping on the table chairs headed for the table, I got me a little switch and swatted her paws with it, to my knowledge she has gotten on table twice hard swats then and counter once, she got by with cause she got down to quick and I won't swat her after she's down, from that all I had to do when she jumped on chairs was to say "I'm getting my switch" and she would jump off immediately. Got to where when I was gone she would hide my switch. lol Now she is very well behaved and if starts to do something I don't want her to I tell her I'll get my switch. I don't even have one anymore, but I haven't told her that. She has had a very small soft football since she was very little, she loves it and plays with it almost everyday, we will play together and she will jump up and catch it. So I to agree toys and playtime is very important. I hope this helps. I hope I haven't offended anyone, I never hurt Dolly, just had to discipline her. Wanda

For those of you with little trouble makers keeping you up at night, have you ever considered putting them in their own room? Our 2 month old kitten has her own room, the downstairs bathroom. it's kitty-proof and we put her in there when we go to bed, and let her out when we get up. she seems comfortable and like she feels safe in there. her litterbox is in there, her kitty cave, food, water, and toys. it's also a nice place for her to take time outs when she's being too frisky! just a suggestion!

I would try using a can of pennies or marbles. Use something that makes a large noise. We tried this by just clapppingour hands when our kitten was bad and ignoring her at the time of the bad behavior. As for getting on the counter when you arn't home. Try covering your counters with foil for a couple days and smear vaseline on them . Cats hate the feel of foil and stickness on their feet. I also threw her down to the floor when i caught them on a beareau or counter. That seems to work for my cat. Yes it seems mean but they land on their feet. I would throw them to the ground and yell no. Now when they even look like theye are going to try it i yell no and they run. We haven't had a problem since. Try an air horn too or a can of air used for cleaning computers.

Oy yeah if she/he start to bite clap at them yell no then ignore for the next 30 min they will get the hint that your loud noise and ignoring them is a sign that you didn't like that action they did

i have a very frisky kitty too, she runs around attacking feet, skirts! and jumps on all fours straight up in the air. She also takes tissues out of the box! and then runs of and tears them up so we have tissues everywere, oh and she has plenty of toys, between her bell balls and our toddlers toys everywere this cat has tons of toys, oh and she is great with my daughter, the most bub cops is the occassional scratch on the leg, and they play bub thinks she is amazing. but my biggest problem is the attacking feet thing, shes a little stalker, most of the time she doesnt hurt, just jumps around feet while walking, so she ends up being kicked as we are walking (not intentionally) and occassionally she does dig in her claws, and tries to bite, it is getting a bit too much, is there any thing that can discourage her from trying to eliminate our feet!!! and in the mornin g when dh gets up to go to work, she goes silly too running around (really noisy) i think its just excitement, but is there a way to make here excitement a little quietier? as bub is still asleep and the amount of noise the cat makes is enough to wake her most mornings!
other than that my little honey is great! lol when shes calm shes a beautiful little cat, sleeps on us i the evenings, even dissapears for hours some days, just mornings and afternoons that we have a hyperactive tissue stealing stalker!
