For the counters thing, I wrapped mine in aluminum foil for a week. My cats HATED it.
I just had a serious problem with one of my cats because she ate alumminum foil. Please dont do this.

Also, I have two cats...one is quite similar to the one you described. We got a second cat for her to play with and they play like crazy. It has definitely given my crazy cat a new focus. She's still in the middle of everything but much less destructive. I think yours just needs somewhere to put all that energy.

I agree about the foil, it is toxic to cats- use bubble wrap instead

Okay, I take back the aluminum foil thing! I didn't know it was toxic! It did work for my kitty though. You can use bubble wrap. I also hear they don't like stickyness. So, maybe double stick tape? But that might mess up the counter.

Nurse_Jamie,

I am new to this site and have spent the last hour or so reading posts. While doing so, I came across a few of yours.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that I really don't think you knew what you were getting yourself into before getting a kitten. Every single post you made about your kitten is negative (except your very first one when you first got your kitten).

You call your kitten bad and unruly. You advocate spanking your kitten. You admit that your husband doesn't like the kitten. You are mad at your kitten because it runs down the hallway. You keep your kitten confined to a laundry room. You are mad because your kitten is playing.

HELLO! Your kitten is a KITTEN! They are supposed to do these things! What did you think a kitten would do? Sit on your sofa and look pretty?

Yes, I know I am being harsh and I don't care. You are acting neurotic and foolish. Kindly don't give me that "well, I'm learning!" excuse. You can't learn common sense and it takes common sense to know that a kitten is going to play and act a bit crazy. And besides, you admitted that you had a kitten prior to this one.

Stop locking your poor kitten in your laundry room and RELAX. Right now is the most important time for you and your kitten to bond and you are wasting way too much negative energy on the little things. So, your kitten knocks your FAKE plant over. PICK IT UP AND MOVE ON. PLay with your kitten. Love your kitten. Appreciate your kitten.

If you can't come to terms with what it entails being a kitten owner, do yourself and especially that defenseless little kitten a favor and give it to someone who will appreciate it.

while some of your advise is well grounded, there is no need to respond in the way you did. i wont tolerate users jumping on each other for any reason.

Yes, Jason, I agree with you. Her posts struck a nerve with me, but that isn't an excuse for jumping on her the way I did. I should have been more tactful.

I'd like to say something about the laundry room because I had a similar experience with one of my kitties. When Poopie was a kitten we lived in a studio apartment with her and Miss Kitty, her mommy. My husband had a bad habit of locking them in the laundry room at night because they would run around. Miss Kitty started to act out. She began biting me and attacking my legs. She seemed very angry with me. It took me quite awhile to figure out that she HATED being locked in the laundry room because it HAD NO WINDOW.

One of her favorite passtimes is to sit and look out the window. I didn't realize how stressed out she was about being confined all night. She was acting "badly" because she was trying to tell me something! Once we stopped locking her up she became her old sweet self.

Perhaps kitty is acting out because something is really bothering her and since she cannot speak, she does these things to get your attention, just as a small child might do.
