Jasmine, you need to listen very carefully to what your vet tells you when he releases her. Confinement and restriction of activity are PARAMOUNT when healing a fractured pelvis. If you let her run around, she could further injure the pelvis, it can misalign and you will only be making the situation more difficult. You also need to ask your vet about possible pain medications (to be given orally, like torbugesic in val syrup, given once or twice a day for a few days)....He will tell you how to keep her properly confined and about restricted activity, what to watch for, but you will need to get her re-evaluated for worsening problems, and you need to watch her urination and bowel habits extremely closely. For now, it is imperative your vet has checked for puncture wounds, internal injuries, abcesses and any infection, provide oral antibiotics if necessary, and he needs to fully evaluate her injuries and tell you how to care for her at home before he releases her to you.

The first vet probably didn't treat her because vet clinics are not free. If someone found Willow and brought her to the clinic, the vet was not obligated to treat her injuries, given they are so serious (most bone and pelvic fractures require surgery, you should have been offered this or at least it should have been discussed if the injury was extensive). The most the vet could have done was keep her comfortable, give her pain medication, tend to her until the owner (you) was found. This is the policy of most veterinary clinics, no matter where you are.

When the vet releases her to you, be absolutely certain you get a sheet of written instructions and make an appointment for a followup check-up before you leave the clinic. Any other questions, you need to talk to the vet.

Willow is home now, she is upstairs in her cage. She is purring, even though she is not being smoothed, i think she's happy to be home, she rubs her head on your hand when you poke your hand through. Four weeks...eurgh, poor thing.

Traci, we did not get offered surgery. We have the medication though. Traci you said about the vets finding Willow and not using surgery, it's not the surgery, it's that the vet didn't even CHECK her for broken bones, fractures, injuries etc... And what's even worse is that the vets handed her back to us, and we had no idea and neither did they that my little kitten has a broken pelvis and was suffering.

I'm glad Willow is back, it's comforting knowing she is in the house. I'm sure she'll be back to her old self by Christmas. Mum got her a collar and I.D tag just in case. But we are going to try our best still to try and keep her with her family where she belongs.

Jasmine...glad to hear she is home...do be sure to follow the advice and keep her confined...I know it is hard, but she needs to let her pelvis heal. I'll keep her in my prayers that she's back to her old self in no time

Have you considered getting a larger cage? They come in all sizes. You need one big enough to fit a litter box and food. Also, I suggest you put a sheet around 3 sides of the cage if it's an open one. This way kitty will feel safer. Right now kitty needs lots of rest and care. This sounds like a pretty serious injury and if confinement is what the doctor ordered, then that's what's in kitty's best interests. Stairs are especially dangerous to kitty right now.

It's absolutely unimaginable how cruel some people are to animals. I have read stories that make my skin crawl. Never let your cat go outdoors. There are too many dangers out there.

Just keep on reassuring your baby that you're there and you care. It's amazing how cats respond to talking. They almost seem to understand!! Keep talking to kitty and reassuring her of your love and devotion. I know this may sound silly, but I did this with my Jack who was badly abused. I kept on telling him that no one would ever hurt him again, and on and on like that. In time he calmed down. He's still a little nervous but he gets better as time goes by.
