Here is what happened to my kitten!
Right, she is going to the vets! My mum said there is a chance she will have her leg amputated (spell?). Willow has been extremely good, she would meow whenever she wanted attention, food or her litter tray. She knows the only way to do anything is to call me. She is going to be made a permanant indoor cat. I doubt she would want to go out after this anyway.
I felt her leg this morning, it felt like there is no bone, her leg is all floppy and... dead! That animal rescue/vet centre we picked her up from obviously didn't do anything to help...I bet they never even x-rayed her! She probably has a broken leg
Thanks,
Jasmine & Willow

Re: Here is what happened to my kitten!
Jasmine, your last post indicated you were taking her in to the vet TODAY, is that correct?
Don't wait another minute, if her leg is broken, chances are she has developed a serious infection (bone fractures can get infected, the infection can enter the blood stream and cause a miriad of problems)....You really CANNOT wait on this, imagine the excruciating pain she is suffering right now, not to mention the seriousness of infection that left untreated, will be even harder to treat and heal. If her pelvis is fractured, it needs to be addressed RIGHT NOW....if it is left untreated, it will fracture and infect even further making correction nearly impossible. This can also seriously interfere with urination and bowel function (another source of infection potential)
PLEASE, get her seen IMMEDIATELY!

We have got her seen to. We have good news and bad news. The good news she is in the vets right now under 'care', and is coming home tomorrow. The bad news is she has a broken pelvis, and has to be kept in a cage for 4 weeks!! Mum and her fiancee are going quite mad, because, the vets who 'found her' must not of even checked her!! Mum and her fiancee want to go pick her up today, saying how it's cruel to keep a cat in a cage with barking dogs nearby. I am so annoyed. I want to pick her up too, because what will they do? They can't do anything! they didn't even have enough brain to check her over!!!

Re: Here is what happened to my kitten!
I'm so sorry that happend to your kitty. It sounds like she was abused and/or beaten by the nasty boys that got her. I personally do not believe in letting cats go outdoors. Not only are they a nusiance to your neighbours, but they can be abused, such as yours or hit by cars, attacked by dogs. Not very nice.
My neighbour lets her two cats out and they use everyone's gardens as their toilet, they stalk my bird feeders, it's really annoying. I have three cats that are strictly indoor animals. They are happy and healthy and I never have to worry what could happen to them or what they could eat that could make them sick.
I'll be praying for a speedy recovery for your baby.

Re: Here is what happened to my kitten!
The whole idea of having cats indoors has never appealed to me until now. Thanks for being a support. Does anyone know how to get Willow to become a proper indoor cat when she recovers (which i pray happens!!). Is there any things i should know? tricks and tips etc? Thanks xxx

Jasmine...I'm sorry for poor Willow....I hope she recovers and that the vet is treating her appropriately. Did you take her to the same vet that found her or a different vet?
There are some links in jason's post above I believe that will help you in converting an outdoor cat to an indoor cat. Since Willow is young it shouldn't be that difficult. At first she may want to go out a lot, but in time, given plenty of toys and attention to keep her occupied, she should get use to be indoors.

We took her to the same vet, we had to because it's the nearest vet and the other close vet has been closed down so i heard. I dread to think how scared she is in those vets. I just don't know how some qualified 'vets' can just find an injured cat, who was obviously found lying around because she can't walk, keep her, and then hand her back...it's sick.
Oh well... I will update you on how she is when we get her back. We have to keep her in a cage for 4 weeks...how terrible is that? atleast she will be back out of the cage for the christmas season I took a look at the advice on making an outdoor cat an indoor cat, it was quite useful, but do you know of any more tips?
Thanks,
Jasmine and... I'm on my own!

Re: Here is what happened to my kitten!
Jasmine...are there any other vets you could possibly take her to?? I don't know what regulations vets must follow in the UK...but I know most vets here in the US would have treated that cat first thing when it was brought in, even as a stray. I can't give you an advice as to what treatment she should be getting, maybe Traci will stop by and let you know.
As far as keeping her in....you just need to be careful about making sure she can't escape. And make sure she has plenty of toys..interactive ones are great, a kitty condo or something (although mine prefer boxes...go figure)...access to a window to look out...a scratching post...and just give her some play time with you each day...she will do fine I'm sure.

Re: Here is what happened to my kitten!
We just recently took in a stray cat and I know she wants to go back outside, but we are just persistant and don't let her. One thing I was doing to stop her from running out the door was a little behaviour modification. I would go outside with a squirt gun and open the door to come in, if she bolted I would squirt her. The message I am hoping she's getting is that it sucks to go for that door cause you get wet! Eventually over time I think she will forget about going outside. Someone mentioned on another board I frequent that you could put the cat harness on and take them out and keep them on a leash for a while (of course staying with them at all times), but personally I think this is just keeping them wanting to go out. I am just persistant and will not let her out at all and I am hoping she will eventually forget about it.

Re: Here is what happened to my kitten!
I think you are right Nancy...we tried this with Willow and it did not curb her desire to go out, only strengthened it...so the harness is not put away and Willow seems to be doing pretty good as an indoor cat only. Of course our cats do have a screened porch to enjoyNancy (Spuddie' s Mum) wrote:Someone mentioned on another board I frequent that you could put the cat harness on and take them out and keep them on a leash for a while (of course staying with them at all times), but personally I think this is just keeping them wanting to go out.
