Well its been almost 3 weeks since diagnosis. Things were ok up until last week when Clem developed a tooth infection. I took her to the vet on Friday and they prescribed 10 days of antibiotic shots to clear it up. She went back to the vet this Monday and had her blood curve work done... the vet said she is doing very well on the one unit of insulin twice a day and to bring her back in 3 weeks for a tooth evaluation and cleaning. Im not sure why, but last night she peed on my clothes again.. she has not done this since she has had the insulin. I cleaned the litter box very well today and we'll see what happens tonight.

When cats urinate outside the box they are letting you know something is wrong.
Definitely have a urine test done for bacteria for Clementine.

The antibiotics the vet prescribed are for bladder infections and others. The vet said that it is the primary antibiotic used and is quite strong. Are you thinking she has another kind of infection that this antibiotic wont wipe out?

If the vet says it should work for bladder, then keep on giving them to her.
I wonder if she could possibly need some fluids (sub-q). This would flush out her system. Ask about that possibility.

What is the antibiotic he prescribed, and was a urinalysis NOT done? If she continues to urinate on your clothing or anywhere other than the litterbox, do get a urinalysis. While most UTI's do respond to general antibiotics such as clavamox, some bacterials don't respond to them, in which case a culture may be necessary at some point in order to determine the correct antibiotic approach.
It also could have been residual stress from the vet visit, but first and foremost is getting her rechecked, at least a urinalysis and for your peace of mind.

Sorry.. Its been awhile.
Clementine was doing well.. until this week. The peeing started again.
Shes in the vet all day today having a blood curve done and checking to see if she has a UTI.

Clem was at the vet all day yesterday and it turns out she doesn not have a UTI. I had run out of insulin needles so had to pick up some on a Sunday(vet not open) so I went to a "big box store" and spoke with the pharmacist.. she assured me that the needles she was selling me were the same as the ones I was using. Turns out she was wrong and poor Clem was not getting enough insulin! I have to double her insulin for a week so she gets caught up and then all should be ok. I'll be going to talk to the manager of that store today..... what if that error had been/is being made on humans? And thankfully Clem will recover from this error.

I'm assuming your vet has instructed you to double the insulin??? If not, don't EVER proceed with such a thing without his direct supervision. If he has indeed instructed you to do so based on her glucose curves, watch her carefully during this coming week for any signs of insulin overdose (or even hypoglycemia), in which case, contact your vet or an ER vet immediately.
As for the needles,.....do you mean syringes instead? The needles themselves wouldn't be so much the actual problem as the syringe size, as in UNITS. To play it safe, ask your vet to write the needle and syringe size down for you in the event you have to use a pharmacy again. If your pharmacy doesn't carry them, ask your vet to order them for you.

Ooops I did mean syringes.... sorry fot the mix up. I had taken the vet syringe to the store to ensure that the pharmacist would advise me correctly... but she still gave me the wrong syringe.( It was a Sunday.. I was out of syringes and my vet wasnt open - thats why I went to a pharmacist). I spoke with my vet on Fridayand she said to give her one unit (in the vet syringe) and keep a close eye on her. I will take her in in two weeks for another curve.

P.S I have been on various message boards and have noticed alot of people home test their cats daily and others are able to control the diabetes with diet. My vet said that home testing is not necessary and that it causes too much stress on the cat. She also said that diabetes cannot be controlled by diet wich I thought was strange as on the msg boards alot of people have been very successful with diet and thier cats have not been on insulin for years. I thought it a bit strange that my vet said it could not be done?
