Good to hear that you have researched the foods to feed him after his hospitalization.

I had to board Honeybun overnight at the ER vets after her knee surgery and she had waming fluids, and medications, the total cost was about $223.00 for one night and treatment. She was in shock after her anesthesia, and they treated her for that and gave pain meds.

Your regular vet could take over, but I wonder about moving him at this point probably not advisable. Certainly your regular vet can take over after and prescribe the correct meds and diet food for him.

The Emergency Vets in my area are excellent and know how to stabilize in a matter of minutes, I was so impressed in my time of need with my cat. I hope you feel the same and Milo in addition to catherization is most likely (check) receiving Sub-Q fluids to flush his bladder and kidneys out.

Wow. He is a beautiful cat. My kitten really likes Science Diet and so does my boyfriends parents 15 year old cat. My kitten was on Hill's presciption food (a/d for underweight cats, pregnant cats, and cats that had just had surgery) He LOVES that stuff too.

the final bill was $1507 for two days in the hospital and we got a bunch of vet eukanuba ph/s food too. they cut the hair on his paw for the IV and the catheter attachment area. i really hope i can prevent this from happening again. tip: get insurance BEFORE anything happens!

Glad to hear Milo is home! I will agree that was a pretty pricey visit! You should be able to avoid it happening again, as long as you monitor the urine. See your regular Vet about that. Good luck, and lots of snuggles to Milo!

been there done that, my rocky had a p/u for his crystal problem and the total cost for all the visits (tried a few different things) totalled more than what you had....it happens.

the pic you posted really shows just how adorable your cat is. thanks for taking great care of the miloster. be sure to post more pics in debbies cloud.

I am glad to hear Milo came home!! Yeah!!

Sometimes you cannot prevent things from happening and some cats are more prone to getting crystals. Is MIlo on antibiotics too!

What did the vet suggest for followup. Are you following up with your regular vet. Keep a good eye on MIlo and make sure he is urinating regularly too.

Good luck with the food change, and hope he is tiptop soon.

The hair will grow back on his paw, my Chloe had her tummy shaved at 8 weeks for spaying, and I though it would never grow, but it is fully covered now.

thanks so much to everyone here. your support was comforting during Milo's difficult ordeal!

i finally got to talk to the regular vet today and in about a week i am going in to get the crystals and cup for Milo so i can do a urine sample at home. i just don't want to stress him out right now with another trip to the doctor. poor little guy has been through enough for awhile.

i have been reading randy kidd's book <i>Herbal Cat Care</i> too and i think that Milo will be getting some dandelion root sprinkled in his food a few days per week from now on to help prevent another plug-up. i read somewhere (maybe it was in dr. kidd's book) that male cats with this condition have a 50 to 75% chance of it happening again! NO! Please. it is too heavy for the little guy (not to mention the pocketbook)!

if anybody else reading this has treated this condition with herbs, let me know!
