kitten with dry skin

Post by Cheryl »

:?: My 7-week old kitten appears to have dry skin, it flakes under her fur which also seems to be quite dry. She has been indoors all the time. Is there a food supplement I should give her? Or does she just have dry skin? She doesn't seem to scratch herself very much so i don't think it's bothering her. I just notice it when I pet her. Any ideas appreciated..thanks...cheryl

Dry skin and fur can be a sign of serious dehydration or malnourishment, so your first plan of action should be to get a full exam for your kitten.

Once your vet pronounces her in excellent health, you can try using OFA's (omega fatty acids) in the form of Linatone or something similar, your vet can recommend a safe product for you.

If you have very dry air in your home, maybe invest in a humidifier...
