Another question from an...

Post by Yzma »

overconcerned cat buddy...

Ok,
I lied.
Two questions.

1. What is the big leathery toe like thing above the dew claw called?

2. Do cats have moles? And if so, do they usually have long curly hairs growing out of them?

Yzma-

You are funny!! LOL!

1. I believe, well at least I call them pads, they have them on the bottoms of their feet too.

2. As far as moles, not sure, but Honeybun and Chloe have black spots on their gums inside their mouths.

 Who me? Funny?

Hmmmm :? Ok so... the cat has two pads on each paw right? one that is surrounded by toes and then one that sort of just hangs off the side of the leg right? So what is the small bump next to it? All my cats have one, but i'm just wondering what it's called. You can't see it, but if you gently feel around you can sort of feel it under the skin. It's about the size of the end of a pencil.

I'm just curious as Mythie has loads of spiky little hairs growing out of one of hers :?

She also has a mole on her left hind leg, with two really thick curly hairs growing out of it... Is that weird or what? :?

if i remember right the foot of cats and dogs had carpal pads, (ones up higher) metacarpal pads, ones down a little lower, and digital pads, ones on the toes.. i think what your referring to are carpal pads...hard to see from here...
i'm not sure about Moles either but they do have what are termed vibrissi pads or follicles around the muzzle hairs...for sensitive feeling going through thins at night...but what your referring to , i am not sure, but cats, dogs, and people will have little anomolies that are different from other cats, dogs or people, but still be considered normall...not a big help but makes me sound like i know what i am talking about---whic is often questionable.

After a bit of probing, i've discovered that those two hairs are in fact not hairs at all...

It's a stitch from her wound!!

AS i recall the vet was looking around for the last one, but couldn't find it and thus assumed he had removed them all. And she was making such a fuss at the time.... :?
