Does anyone have knowledge or experience using d-Mannose for cat urinary problems? I have a cat that I am having problems getting rid of struvite crystals and have been through a couple of different antibiotics plus methigel (for acidity). She is doing better, but still wants to avoid the litter box. So sent and got some d-Mannose, but don't know if (nor the vet) if I can use this along with the antibiotic. Also don't know how much or how to give it. This is a 14 lb cat.
The instructions are: (This is adult dosage) Day #1: 3 capsules (420 mg) with 6 ozs. of pure water every 2 hours (8am-8pm - 21 capsules). Day #2: 3 capsules with 6 ozs pure water every 3 hours (8am-8pm -15 capsules). Day #3: 3 capsules with 6 ozs of pure water every 4 hours (8 am-8pm - 12 capsulels). Children: 2/3 of the adult dose. Maintenance: 3 capsules daily with 6 ozs. pure water.
I have searched the internet, but can't find anything about giving this and the dosage for cats. It is supposed to unattach the bacteria and be flushed out. However, don't know how I am going to get much water down a cat.
Thanks for any info.
Need info on d-Mannose
Have you spoken to your vet about this? I would not give a powder form requiring water to a cat as you know they drink very little. Your vet may know of another product acting the same as those capsules, which are concentrated cranberry juice in a powder, or a way to mix in his food.
Has the vet said anything about sub-q fluids to flush kitty out. They are quite effective and can even be done at home.
Please call your vet back for advice.

Re: Need info on d-Mannose
this appears to be just an expensive form of cranberry juice...might be better to just purchase concentrated cranberry juice and use a syring to squirt it into the mouth....my personall opinion on cranberry is not to high but it does no harm...ask your vet for a syringe and his advice of using the juice...cats hate it but one every so often likes it....
Re: Need info on d-Mannose
Has your vet put you on a Lower Urinary Tract Support food? That might help in addition to the medication. If you do get craberry extract, don't get the one with glycerin. There's a post related to this issue here:

I think you can even get cranberry extract in tablet form
Or you can get Waltham's Urinary Support Tablets which we were using for a while... Ask your vet about them.
