cats who can't eat

Post by richard housley »

we think our cat hurt her jaw about a month ago and won't eat. the vet couldn't find the problem after three visits. we've been feeding her from a syringe but don't know how much food she needs in a day. she weighs 8 pounds down from 10. how many times a day? how often?:(

Sounds like it's time to see a new vet, preferrably a feline only vet.

How old is your kitty? Were any blood profiles done to rule out specific disease? Were x-rays taken to rule out inflammation or obstruction? Was a full oral exam done to rule out diseased teeth or oral ulcers? How did you determine she might have hurt her jaw? Was she outside?

Please get your kitty seen by a new vet immediately. Without more information, it's impossible to advise further. Your vet should be opting for full diagnostics and giving you an appropriate feeding schedule for her. The most important thing is determining the cause of the problem and treating it effectively. Without bloodwork and additional diagnostics, your vet is only treating symptoms, not the cause. You need to know that insufficient nutrition and dehydration can lead to a multitude of organ failure, don't take that risk, get to a new vet NOW.

I agree please go to A NEW VET right away. Without xrays and other diagnostics, no wonder you cat was not able to be helped. She may have a broken jaw which healed wrong.

Please go to a feline vet one who specializes in surgery and have her xrayed and examined.
