I had to send Mickey to The Bridge

Post by k9Karen »

This was without a doubt, one of the hardest things I've ever done. He became very ill yesterday afternoon - watery diarrhea and too weak to get up. He wouldn't eat or drink. I took him to the vet, and the best they could offer was to hook him up to an IV, do some blood tests, and leave him alone in a cold cage all night. I couldn't do that to him. He called out for me all the time, and I knew he would be miserable wondering where I was. At best, I might have bought him a few hours or days.

It was time, and I know it - I just hope I can forgive myself someday.

Thanks for listening.

Oh k9Karen, you are in my thoughts tonight, and my prayers are with you. Godspeed Mickey! I don't know what I believe about all of this, but my deepest hope is that he is running free and happy, without pain and with lots of friends. I suspect he's long since forgiven you; in fact he's probably wondering why you think there's anything to forgive. You did the hardest thing possible, with the greatest love, and my hope is that, with tears and a little time, this is what will become primary!

K9Karen....so sorry about Mickey. Please don't be hard on yourself...you showed him the greatest love by being able to let him go instead of letting him suffer. My heart goes out to you.

Karen,
........I'm sooo sorry.........
I think you made the courageous decision. It doesn't make it any easier but it was the right thing to do. I feel terrible for your loss. I hope your happy memories can get you through this really difficult time, and know that you did the best thing for Mickey in the end.
We're all here for you.

Karen, I'm so very sorry.....my heart goes out to you. I know it wasn't an easy decision to make, and I know your heart is torn apart right now, but you did the most loving act of kindness by letting him go. He knew that, and your love for him will never seperate you.

Safe and gentle journey, sweet Mickey.......(((HUGS)))

I'm so sorry you had to say good bye to Mickey, Karen. We've all gotten to know Mickey very well over the years and he and you are in my heart and prayers. We had to make the same decision with Roxy and it was the hardest and sadest thing I've ever been through in my life. Time does ease the pain of loss but it's a terrible pain when we loose our heart dogs and at times the grief and sense of guilt can be overwhelming. Give yourself time to miss and love Mickey. Over time, your loving memories of Mickey will give you solace in knowing that a part of the deep love we have for our best friends is to release them from the burden of suffering.

Roxy was a good girl and I know she's playing with Mickey now.

Karen my heart and prayers go out to you and Mickey...I had to set my Z free a few weeks ago and it was very hard but I knew there was no other way. The pain lessens with time.

God Bless..
