very sad story... my kitten has died

Post by Lilac »

I had rescued this orphan from a mother who had been killed when it was just a few weeks old. I had been raising her for three months and she had been the perfect farm cat for me. I also have a 3 year old german shepard, but they had always seemed to get along nicely.

Yesterday, my dog was found holding my kitten by her head and shaking her back and forth. Although she was only playing with her and didnt realize what she was doing, I dont think I can ever forgive her. We managed to get my dog to let go of the kitten, but she was in rough shape. The vet happened to be at our farm, and he took a look at her, and said there didnt appear to be any internal injury, but there might have been some brain damage. It was expected that if she made it through the night, she would live.

She didn't make it. I want to know exactly what happened to her- she would be sleeping in her box and not wake up, and when she did- her eyes would shake back and forth and she would meow and meow like crazy, until we finally got her calmed down. Was that brain damage? I'm just curious- she had a heart of gold, and I'll always miss her.

Well your kitten most likely suffered from brain trauma due to the violent shaking. Babies have died from this.

Please if you have another kitten or cat try to keep them inside or away from this German Shephard. Dogs can be unpredictable and a small kitten or cat does not stand a chance against their power.

Poor little soul. I will pray for her safe and gentle journey to the Rainbow Bridge.

Oh Lilac....this just breaks my heart. I had a kitten killed by a neighbors dog when I was a child and to this day I grieve when I hear similar stories. I am so sorry. I would imagine there was brain damage due to the violet shaking. I agree with Mona...I think I would keep cats away from the dog from here on out....even if she didn't mean it, as Mona says, dogs are unpredictable, especially certain breeds. Again, I am so sorry to hear this...

this is very sad and i feel for you but this is somewhat similar to seigfried and roy--they don't think the tiger was trying to carry roy as maybe your dog was...sometime things are not fair...
