Good luck with all of this - it does sound like a lot to deal with all at once, but I hope you can get him seen tonight! My thoughts and prayers are with you and Junior.

I agree with everyone and have been through this. When an infection does not clear up you MUST have oral antibiotics. I changed vets over this one time. Clavamox is the drug of choice for URI. Kittens go down rapidly, so please DO NOT wait borrow money delay payments but get him seen asap.

If dehydration sets in, it may be too late to reverse the affects.

Sorry I've taken so long to post a followup....things have been hectic to say the least. Junior was seen at the specialty clinic today by a very nice doctor who gave him an antibiotic shot, changed his eye ointment, and prescribed an oral antibiotic for me to administer for a week. Junior was able to eat some pedialyte and beef baby food last night and held it down, so this morning he had a bit more energy and was able to be a little bit active. When we got home from the vet today, he rested a bit and then started eating---his dry food! Since then I have seen him eat a bit three different times, and he has finally gone back to his water bowl as well. The vet said as long as he is able to keep the food down, he should be alright. I haven't found any puke spots, so it looks like he's holding it down. The strange little head jerking motion has stopped completely....it was almost as if he was trying to swallow with a very sore throat. I washed his eyes out with warm water and they haven't matted back up, though they are still running a bit of yellowish-green mucous.

Tonight he's been rather active, climbing around and being very loving every time I come into the room. He's purring and seems to be comfortable.

I'll keep you updated as to his continued progress. Thanks to everyone for the wonderful advice!

Very glad to hear about Junior. He sounds as though he is on the road to recovery now. Be sure to administer all antibiotics even though he appears well to kill all bacteria.

Honeybun and Chloe sends Purrs to him.

Hi everyone! First I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the advice and good wishes---I believe Junior is alive today because of them.

The news is good.....aside from some sneezing and a bit of eye snot, Junior is making a great recovery it seems. He is active again, eating VERY well (getting a little bit of a tummy finally) and is drinking again. He is alert and playful. He doesn't like his antibiotics, but I'm getting them down him as best I can (but more winds up on me than in his stomach I'm afraid). He has stopped fighting the eye salve so that at least has become easier to handle.

He's such a sweet, affectionate little fellow. He appears to be out of the woods and I believe he'll be fine with a little more time and medication. He has a couple more vet visits to make, so we're hoping for a clean bill of health soon so he can finally come out of quarantine and join his big brothers :D

His vet bills have been huge and he still has more to come, but I wanted to mention some ladies who are an absolute GODSEND---the gals (and their hubbies) at an animal lovers chat board that I frequent. They have come through in flying colors for us, making very generous donations to cover Junior's medical expenses. Without them, there is no way we could have afforded to get him to the clinic, though I would have tried my hardest. They started wiring me money through PayPal so quickly that by the time he had to go to the clinic, there was enough money in my account to cover it. Amazing! Within a very short period of time there was enough in the fund to cover his prescriptions, and there is even a bit left over now to go toward his next checkup (which is coming up in a few days). These ladies are the BEST! I can't even start to say how grateful I am to them....without their loving generosity there is no way we could have afforded any of this.

A huge thanks also to you wonderful folks here on this board for the great advice and for lighting a fire under my fanny to get Junior to the clinic. It's not in my nature to ask for handouts or free services, so asking to borrow money for the expenses or begging the vet for delayed payment services *might* have cost this sweet little kitten his life. Coming here and reading your posts telling me to get him to the vet NOW really got me moving, and for that I thank you :D

I will keep you posted again after his checkup and let you know what the vet says about his recovery.

Thank you thank you thank you!
