Re: help
If you don't know someone who can take him, see if there is a breed club in your area. They most likely have members that are involved in rescue, or know of a rescue group. There are several sheltie rescue groups, and I''ve seen some of them also take border collies if there is no border collie rescue group

Re: help
he is the type of dog that only comes to people in my family and doesnt even go near the work men on the farm!!
I he is only about 3yrs and is a lovely dog but other famers dont usually take on a dog that old!!!
and i wouldnt want him to be put to sleep!!!

Re: help
You could try to find a no-kill shelter, but they are hard to find here - I don't know what you have available to you in Ireland. Rescue seems to be, at least in my opinion, your best option. I think it depends on the rescuer, some are picky, and some aren't. They usually won't take dogs with a history of aggression, but they may be able to overcome the timidity by being patient and caring. Is he housebroken? That would make him easier to place. I have no idea what type of set-up you have near you, but I would think there are rescue groups over there like there are here in the States. Search the 'net and see what you can find.

Re: help
You'd be suprised at how much attention a well trained dog like that would get in a town! You don't have to go totally city, he could live in a nice suburban area. Maybe even a place with kids to play with or with an older couple with a nice fenced in yard. There are a lot of Shelti Rescue groups out there that would definately be willing to take him. You just have to find one near you and give them a call. Good luck!!

Re: help
Kelly, that sounds like a great idea. Whenever I introduce any new dog into the house, I make sure they all meet away from any place they feel is their territory. That way there is (hopefully) no standoff, then I walk them all back and they just go in the yard together for a bit, mind you I watch carefully ready to jump in if there is any sign of a problem. I make sure all feeding is done seperately so there is no food confrontations, and gradually they get along. I hope you can make it work, sound like you are on the right track and I'm sure your family will be relieved too. Keep us posted how it's going.
