treed

Post by Kigata »

My indoor cat has taken to sneaking out of the house...quick as lightning!
Anyway something always scares her...dogs...neighborhood kids...up a tree. Way up a tree. She is at day 4 at the very top of a pine tree in my front yard almost 40 feet up  This is the second time in less than two weeks. The first time was in a dicidous tree where she stayed 4 days until a spry friend went up and got her...I noticed she ate leaves and bugs and drank the water from rainfall. I thought what a survivor! :? Now at the top of this pine tree... no food no rain water and to me it looks like alot of wasps up there! Any advise on how to get her to try and come down by herself??? We've tried all the obvious answers...help

I would only guess she is too afraid to come down and highly unlikely that she'll come down on her own...poor baby.

Does your local fire department rescue cats or possibly hire a tree service that has ladders/climbers that would do that high... I suggest you do something soon...no food, no water and wasps can be very dangerous to your kitty...

Please keep us posted...

And in addition to Lisa's advice, you need to keep your kitty indoors only, as you've witnessed, the outdoor dangers are just too numerous.

If she's sneaking out, as you say...find out where and how she is doing it, and resolve it immediately.

As for rescue, ask that friend again to go up to get her (as long as it's safe)....open cans of tuna, sardines or salmon so that she can see you doing it...offer warm cream, enticing things, and speak in a calm soothing voice to calm her. You need to get her out of that tree....cats can develop severe liver problems and dehydration without food and water past three days.

i suspect your cat will come down, if for no other reason than if you look at all the trees in the neighborhood and you will not find a single cat skelton in any of them...i know this is not funny but it was the standard answer when our local fire company was called for things like this...leave a dish of food in her sight and close to a door or your house..she will come down but do try to keep her home bound cause she will repeat it...

Davet,

Unfortunately, a dear friend of mine lost a cat this way...he was not able to find his cat (it was an indoor/outdoor cat) and did find her once the leaves from the tree fell...way too late...

i don't doubt that but this is the first time i ever heard of one staying in a tree that long.cats are real survivors, once they come down, dehydrated and hungry, they bounce right back...but again there are always exceptions and this, for me, is a first...
