Update on Cali

Post by Tina B and crew »

It's been a week and she still has not been seen  However, the gentleman closed off the door to the room that leads to the attic, left the attic door open, put food, water and I guess litter in the closed off room. He says that something is eating the food!! We are hoping it is Cali. I didn't think to ask if he mentioned any litterbox use. He says that Daphne goes to the door and sits and meows...I wonder if she knows something. His next step is to rig up a camera (video I guess)...and see if he can catch her coming to the bowl that way...at least that way he would (and us too) know she's safe. He did say there was a spot she might beable to get out of, but there is at least a 12 foot drop and no other way down. I told my coworker to tell him that he needs to close it up because it doesn't matter if it's a 12 foot drop she could get out  She doesn't think she will try, but I wouldn't put anything past Cali...I hope she passes that message on to him.

Oh my goodness I truly hope Cali comes out to safety soon! If he is sure something ... and hopefully Cali ... is eating, is there a possibility of him setting up a have-a-heart cage with the food in it. This way once she goes in to eat, he's got her. OF COURSE, he'll have to check that cage several times a day!

*fingers crossed*

Tina, I know you and friend are doing your ultimate best...but might also tell him he needs to find out ASAP if she is there...for health concerns, and of course, to rule out her getting out. She also needs to bond, or she is going to be that much more difficult to bond with once she comes out of hiding.

Tell him to place a large cat mat under the food and water...sprinkle flour or even fine dirt on/around it....if Cali is there and eating, her pawprints will show. (of course he needs to watch this for any evidence of bugs, ants, etc)

Traci...my concern is as strong as yours, but my hands are tied to a certain point. I don't know the man who adopted them, don't have his phone number, don't know where he lives and don't even know his last name. My co-worker who arranged all this was actually the one who was so reluctant to let the cats go, yet she doesn't want to say much to him because she is afraid he will think we are having doubts about his adopting the cats. That isn't the case at all!! Gabby and Daphne seem to love it there. I tried to impress upon her the dangers that Cali could be in but she doesn't seem to think it's that bad :? I keep worrying about her getting hurt, getting hepatic lipidosis...any number of things. Of course I'm not there in the house and not in his shoes so I don't know what all he is doing...he may be up there for hours at a time looking for her for all I know, or he may be giving her space...

I will mention to my co-worker the flour on the mat idea...I don't know why I didn't think of that because I've used that method!!

Thanks..continue to pray that Cali is OK. I'll keep you updated.

I hope Cali is found soon and that she's alreight! I loved the idea Traci had about the flour and pawprints. that just might lead him to her hiding spot. Keep us posted....got all fingers and paws crossed here!

Lisa...last I heard still no Cali...but my co-worker is out of town and I have no way to contact this guy. My co-worker is so afraid she is going to offend him or something, but I don't care...he needs to do whatever it takes to find Cali! I do have something invested in her wellbeing, I fostered her after she was spayed  But I'll have to wait until she comes back to find out anything else. *sigh*

Hi Tina,

Hopefully, there will be some good news soon. It's unfortunate that your co-worker views trying to help out by showing concern as possibly offending this guy. If I were the gentleman who had adopted the cats and this happened..I'd only be too happy that someone was trying to help me out...

I'm sure it's frustrating on your end.

Hang in there and take care,

Lisa...I think I will have a talk with my co-worker if there isn't any positive news soon...I keep thinking what poor Cali must be feeling, all alone and afraid, away from her "territory"...but there is only so much we can do...she couldn't live there at our office forever, it just wasn't safe.

I'll update next time I hear anything. Thanks
