Frog invasion and frog hunt!

Post by k9Karen »

Those of you that have followed my posts for the past couple of years know that my husband is not exactly prompt with the pool maintenance. We have, at least, gotten it beyond the pea soup phase so you can at least see the goo on the bottom. For the past two weeks I have been pointing out to him the two frogs that had decided our pool was their own personal spa. He grunted, so at least I know he heard me. I've been having fun watching them float and sun themselves, and of course Angel had to try to herd the one that was out on the cool deck. Well, today was the last chance for the frogs. It was time to add shock treatment to the pool - it was starting to grow toward the pea soup again, but I didn't want to kill the frogs, so klutz that am, I got the net and tried to fish them out. You can only imagine, but it was quite comical. I did finally succeed. Caught one and put it in a covered plastic bowl so I could take it down to the lake. The other one was hard to find, but finally, I got it too.

In the meantime, frog #1 was in the bowl in the kitchen. I grabbed frog #2 and took it into the kitchen so I could put it in the same bowl -BIG MISTAKE!! As soon as I opened the bowl, frog #1 went flying and ran under the recliner in the family room. I sheepishly went to tell my husband that we had a frog loose in the house (yes, I prefaced my information with the phrase "I'm an idiot"). It took us over an hour, but we finally found the thing behind the aquarium. It was quite a fight, but I finally got it and it now has a new home, along with frog #2.

All that to save the lives of two frogs - am I crazy or what?

Well if you are crazy then I guess I am crazy too because I would have done the very same thing (save the frogs!)

has a swimming pool with a cover on it, there are hundreds of baby tadpoles in the water stuck on the cover..they had a lot of algae to eat so are ok for now. but when they get big enough they are going to take them to the stream that flows through valley forge and let them rest up before they organize and invade Philly, course they already have a leader...G.Washington Frog..

What did the dogs think of the loose frog? Mr. Blue...

Post by Mary Plummer »

...feels like he should hunt them, but ends up backing off; I don't think he quite understands what they are! I'm going to follow the Skeptic's lead and plead the fifth on your question...except to say "Look at who you hang out with on the internet" :D

Hehehehe , That's so cool! I have saved a couple of frogs from a swimming pool by my house as well. Also a lizard once. I was too late for a baby rabit.

Yesterday, I stopped on the road to save a turtle! .. Poor turtle looked like he had been run over by something, but not squished. - I put him next to a creek several miles away.

I've stopped myself to get several out of the road. Here in Central Florida we have hundreds of old sinkholes filled with water (oops - I mean lakes), and because of that we have lots of turtles, frogs and other assorted critters. I'll try to save the turtles and the frogs, but if an alligator gets in my pool, he can have it!

They never even saw it. Angel has a good nose, so the fact that she didn't even smell it surprised me. The others were outside when it got loose, and never noticed it either.
