Cat peeing.. Help!
Cat peeing.. Help!
Hello,
My female cat, who is about 10 years old is peeing on my clothes! The other night I left a pair of pants on the floor when I went to bed.. she peed on them in the night. I thought the litter box may be out of hand and this was her protest so I cleaned it. I went out of town the next night but my husband was home.. she did not pee on anything. Last night I intentially left my pants on the floor again and she peed on them! Again.. my husband escaped unscathed. Is my cat sick and trying to tell me something? Or is she mad? I have had her for 5 years and she has never done this before last week.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you/

Re: Cat peeing.. Help!
is she using litter box at all? does she sometimes sit in it? have you changed anything like the box, litter, liners, placement of box, etc recently?
a vet visit with urinalysis is needed before suggesting a possibility of her trying to tell you something other than uti. could be a form of comfort for her as an infection is typically painful.
i'd schedule a vet visit and keep a close eye on her fluid intake.

Hi Kleem,
Agree with Jason's advice...a visit to the vet as soon as possible to rule out health concerns first is definitely in order...peeing in inappropriate places is frequently a sign of a UTI.. The only way to diagnosis this via the vet which is the first step.
You may also want to examine if changes in the environment have occurred...Jason mentions the litter box but is there any other type of stress or routine that has occurred in your home that upset your kitty.
I hope your girl is feeling better.
Please keep us updated, okay.

Thanks so much for your replies.
I have noticed she is drinking more water than usual. Nothing else has changed as far as litter, liners, home environment etc.
I will take her to the vet tomorrow and post the outcome.
THanks again.

I had the same thoughts with the water increase. Yes please have a diabetes test run on your little girl (at 10 these things can crop up suddenly).

Hello again,
Took Clementine to the vet today... turns out she has diabetes. Sad news but it is treatable. Im so glad I took her in as even the vet was shocked at the outcome as Clem appears to be so healthy.
She will be having an overnight stay at the vet so they can determine how much insulin to give her and then I will meet with them to learn how to medicate her.
Thanks again for all of your help.

Re: Cat peeing.. Help!
Thank you for being aware as a pet owner and doing the right thing. Diabetes is not fun for the owner or the cat, but you both can adapt to it and unless you have a fear of needles, you should be able to manage her disease right at home. There is a mailing list for cat owners who have diabetic cats, if you like, I will look up the address and post it for you? I hear there is great support there.

Hi MA,
That diabetes support group site sounds great. I would love to check it out as this is so new to me.
When you have a moment if you could post it that would be great!
Thanks again,
Kendra
