Grapes toxic?
Grapes toxic?
Skeptic- thought this would get lost below...funny that you said that about grapes being toxic to dogs. I fed Honey a few last couple of days and she has been throwing up and I never connected the 2 things! Anyone else know of this toxicity???
Re: Grapes toxic?
Nope - never heard this one. We used to feed green grapes to our family dog all the time, and Mickey has had his fair share of them too without any problems. The other two never got very many - I didn't buy them very often after the kid left to go to college. Is it all grapes? My mom only liked the green seedless, so that's all we had - never concord or black or red, etc. My daughter was like her grandmother - only wanted the green seedless ones. Is it the grape, the seed or the vine that's toxic?

Re: Grapes toxic?
Yes, I have heard grapes and raisins can be toxic.

Re: Grapes toxic?
I checked on several boards, and besides the link given below by Marty, I found one that stated the toxin was identified and was in the seeds. Seedless grapes are safe.momPaws wrote:Skeptic- thought this would get lost below...funny that you said that about grapes being toxic to dogs. Thanks, Skeptic
The grapes i fed were seedless, but only a few. Not something I normally do.

Re: Grapes toxic?
That's good to know. I'm lazy - regardless of the type of grape I buy, it's always a seedless variety. The dogs do like them, but they only get a few, and not very often.
Anyone else have a dog that does this: All of mine act like they really want a grape when we're eating them. If I try to give one to them, they just stare at it and sniff. Seems they can't tell by the smell what it it. Allie will eat it, but both Mickey and Angel won't unless I open it up. As soon as I do that, they gobble them up. I only have to do that with the first one, after that, they know what they are. Maybe they do this because I rarely have them?

yes, K9K- Honey plays hockey puck with them for a while. We used to have a cat that would lick a grape with that sandpaper cat tongue until she got down to the 'meaty' part...like a cat lollipop- she also like an occasional strawberry or olive...what a little goof!
