What a day!!!!!!
It started OK, but ended like a bad day at black rock!.
Here are the dogs playing this morning as usual.
An unsuccessful attempt to get as stupid dive bombing birdie. .....
I went to the doctor's, came home and fixed their dinners and they ate. Cheryl and I went out to eat at the Huddle house. We came home and while I put out the garbage can Cheryl went inside. When she went in I heard more noise than usual and it sounded "different." Then I could hear Cheryl yelling. When I got in, it was all over except the shaking and crying.
When Cheryl went in, the dogs were not by the door as usual and there was a lot of noise from the end of the hall. It looks like some of the dogs had ganged up on Inky! Why, I don't know. Cheryl chased away the other dogs and got Inky into our bedroom by herself. She has bites all over her body, but mainly around the neck and shoulder on her left side. I tried to take pictures showing her wounds, but they didn't turn out.
Of course we examined all the other dogs involved too. (Dottie, Prissy, Freckles, Prince, Mr. Dawg and Prince were not involved in any way. The incident involved the four pups, Sweet Pea, Ginger and Kaiser. Of these Ginger, Kaiser and Sweet Pea had injuries also. None of the pups had so much as a scratch and only Ebony and Ivory had any indication wet areas on their fur. Here are some pics of the other injuries.
Ginger has a single gash above her left eye and a puncture wound by her right eye. Of course it looks worse than it appears in the image.
Kaiser has a similar gash above her left eye and another on her cheek.
Sweet Pea has some puncture wounds in her left ear flap.
Tomorrow when we leave, Inky, Coco, Dottie and Freckles will be locked in our bed room. Sweet Pea will be kenneled. The Pups will be put in thier room. Kaiser and Ginger will be left in the living room with Apache and Prince. Prissy and Mr. Dawg will be either in the living room or bedroom.
Right now we are too shook up to think straight. I have an idea why the fight started, but cannot prove if my theory is correct. ....
Note: except for Sweet Pea and the pups, the dogs involved are generally submissive. The only dog in the group that has shown any animosity before tonight was Sweet Pea, and it was directed against Inky, who has a bad habit of running over her when coming back inside the house.
Any thoughts, suggestions or comments.

Re: What a day!!!!!!
I'm shocked too - I thought they had all that kind of stuff worked out long ago. I guess it's not that unusual for something like this to happen with that many dogs - something happens that upsets the hierarchy, and everyone's playing king of the mountain (or just trying to the the H*** out of the way).
Just curious - what is it that you think set them off? Do you think Inky and Sweet Pea got into it and the others chose sides? Were the pups defending mom?
I sure hope everyone heals quickly and there's no left over animosity - this kind of excitement you don't need!

Re: What a day!!!!!!
The fight could not have been long. I think it started when we pulled into the driveway. My guess is that Inky ran past or over Sweet Pea to get by the door. (Sweet Pea spends a lot of time sleeping on a bed in the foyer.) Sweet Pea attacked and the others joined in. None of the truly dominent dogs were involved. Having said that, at one time Ginger was a dominent dog in the pack. Since that time she has lost her number two spot to many other bigger more powerful dogs!
I have examined the dogs more closely and found more wounds on Sweet Pea. She and Inky are the most injured, supporting my hypothesis that they are the main protagonists in the altercation. From here on out they will be kept separated when we are not around.

Re: What a day!!!!!!
That sure makes sense. I didn't realize Sweet Pea was such a "fighter" - in the pictures she looks like she'd be very docile. Maybe you need to move her bed? Sounds like you have a plan that will work. When my daughter's dog is here we have to put him in the bathroom when we leave, otherwise he annoys the heck out of Angel, and Allie gets angry if he comes at her, but so far at least, the teeth have only flashed in the air. I think she could do some damage if pushed too much, but she usually just tries to hide.
Hope everyone's OK this morning.

Re: What a day!!!!!!
Oh no..............what has happened to the happy dog crew???
Don't you wish you could be a fly on the wall...and see what got them going?
Most likely, your suspicions are correct. You know what's going on and what will trigger an altercation between them.
Poor Inky.....she looks tired from the ordeal. She was happy you came home, no doubt.

I'm sorry to hear this, Skeptic! I hope none of the injuries were too serious! Your supposition on how it happened sounds good to me. Hopefully, they are all over this now, and it won't happen again!

Sorry to hear this, Skeptic- hope it can be solved by separating them - poor Inky

Re: What a day!!!!!!
Is there any chance that Inky is sick and the rest of the crew saw her as a weak link? Just a thought, maybe you should keep an eye on her. I imagine that's not very hard since she is sticking to Cheryl. I found this with ferrets, when one was sick, the other two would beat on her and drag her around by the head. I had to seperate them.
