Hi,
I think my cat has feline acne, but i'm not 100% sure. When i last took him to the vet about it she thought it was an allergic reaction. I then took him back a second time, because he had quite a large lump on his chin. She told me that the allergic reaction doesn't occur on the chin, only the upper jaw, and suggested that he must have bumped his chin on something. The swelling went down in a number of days.
Over the last few days i have noticed a number of little black scabby things on his chin. I thought they were just the reminents of food stuck in his fur, and pulled one off to see, there was a bit of blood underneath it. I haven't pulled any more off, and they seem to be getting much bigger and growing in numbers. Could this be feline acne? Should i take him to the vet again?
Any advice appreciated! Thanks!
Feline Acne
just a guess but i do sespect that this is,as per
your diagnosis, feline acne with the possibility of a "rodent ulcer" on the chin...i would take him/her back for a second look and possibly a scraping...
What is a rodent ulcer?
Could you please tell me what a rodent ulcer is, and how they are caused??
Rodent ulcers are another term for eosinophilic granuloma, they are caused by environmental, dietary, insect or other hypersensitivity, sometimes it is immunological.
If your vet didn't rule out feline acne and didn't take an effective treatment approach, get a new vet promptly. Feline acne can be diagnosed upon a simple exam. If there are open lesions, bumps, or ulcers present, your vet needs to investigate more, the latter should NEVER be taken lightly.

my cat has had feline acne
i went through the feline acne with my big fat cat. i was told to change the food bowl to a ceramic or metal bowl instead of plastic, as plastic holds germs. they tried to tell me Lucy was probably allergic to chicken, but they would charge me upwards of $300 for an allergy test, so we just tried the food bowl change, and it worked. also, switching my babies to Nutro Max Cat Salmon has worked WONDERS. no more bladder infections, no more acne, no more annoying health problems. good luck!
