Traci, thanks for all the info. We have been to the local emergency clinic with Casey's departed sister before so I am familar with some aspects of it. I will double check, but I am fairly certain that there are vets on staff
24 hrs. a day. Thanks for all the info and lists of things to ask about.
Obviously, I'm a bit overwhelmed by all this and am probably not thinking
as clearly and as objectively as you are. I really appreciate all of your expertise and input. Thanks so much!! Casey thanks you too!!!
Constipated Cat????
Re: Constipated Cat????
Lori I've been there....I know it isn't easy at all. The frustration is enough to pull hair out, beleive me. But, you must know that your heart is in the right place, you are doing all that you can to ensure Casey gets the best care possible, we couldn't ask for more. I know how scary this is for you, but you have to go into this feeling that you are doing the right thing, your vet can meet your concerns, talk to you in greater detail on what to expect, and to support you as well. If you still have unanswered questions, don't hesitate in the least to ask your vet, because there is nothing worse than proceeding with doubt in your mind. While some of it is near impossible, it's always best going forward with a full understanding of what to expect.
We are all worried kitty owners here, we would worry more if none of us worried, heh. These kitties really tug at our hearts, dont they...
We started a prayer thread for Casey and you in the PrayerBook for Cats forum...... Hang in there, you're not alone!

Re: Constipated Cat????
Traci, I guess the only thing that is of concern to me right now is the issue of not having anyone at the office 24hrs. I just got a call back from the vet and he said he really feels it's best not to move her during that
first 12-24 hr. period. I can understand that completely and wouldn't be the least bit concerned if someone was there to watch her. He did say he could ask one of the techs to spend the night with her if that's what we want. He also said, that while it is always a concern when there are cardiac issues, her last ultrasound did show improvement ("stable hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, systolic anterior motion resolved/controlled") and therefore he didn't expect any problems. I guess I will decide tomorrow after we find out what they find. He assured me that a tech stays with them until they recover from the anesthesia. I really don't want her left alone at night. I'd rather bring her home so I can watch her. I'm actually closer to the emergency clinic (less than 2 miles) than his office is. I'm fortunate enough not to have to work so I can stay up with her all night if need be.

Re: Constipated Cat????
Traci, Jason and all....
Casey went in for her surgery today and they found what they suspect is lymphoma of the stomach. A biopsy will confirm their suspicions. They were not able to remove any of the tumor. Not the news we wanted to hear. We are going back to the vet later this aftermoon to discuss our
options. Thanks to all for your prayers and support. It really means a lot. God Bless you all.

Re: Constipated Cat????
Lori, I was hoping for much better news, I'm so sorry to learn this...I know you must be beside yourself.
Ask your vet to consult with a feline oncologist on your behalf for more treatment options, especially if you consider opting for chemotherapy. I would suggest Greg Olgivie at Colorado State U, Kevin Hahn at Gulf Coast Vet Specialists in Houston, TX, or the oncology dept at U of Wisconsin. All three generally share the same chemotherapy protocols, but each is usually tailored to fit the patient's needs. A consult may be able to offer you more in terms of treatment options, what to expect.
My prayers continuing for Casey and you, I know this isn't the news you wanted to hear, but don't give up.....explore your options....(((HUGS)))

Re: Constipated Cat????
Traci, I think we are going to give the chemo a try. I feel as though I need to give her as much of a chance as I possibly can. She is worth
that and so much more. I just want to be sure that everything I'm doing is what's best for her. I'm glad to hear you list the Univ. of Wisconsin oncology dept. because my vet already mentioned they would use the Univ. of Wisconsin protocol if that's what we opted for. Thanks again.
I would like to start a new subject (something different than "constipated
cat") to attempt to get as much feedback from others who have gone through the lymphoma/chemo experience.
