Yet another instance of Mr Blue teaching me how much I don't
know about him, how/why he behaves the way he does, etc. On our morning walk today, he alerted to some critter making noise in the bushes next to a house. He went into full alert, pointed, and wanted to go up in the yard to deal with the emergency. Right next to him on the sidewalk was a full slice of cheese pizza that someone had dropped, and he didn't even look or sniff at it! I was amazed - all he wanted to do was go hunt that critter. I've never seen him in that situation, presented with obvious food vs. the scent/sound of a critter to hunt. I would have guessed he would have tried to eat the pizza, rather than try to hunt. Needless to say, I didn't/wouldn't have let him do either one. Whenever I can stop him, I don't let him eat food he finds, and I certainly don't let him hunt critters in someone else's yard. But I was amazed to see that his drive to hunt small critters was strong enough to override even a glance at a slice of pre-made food. It was good - I love learning more about what really drives him from watching the way he behaves. I guess that nose, or hound dog heritage, really is compelling for him.

You know, I think you might be right - he knows I'm always good for a crumb or three when I eat pizza You know, of course, the song going through my head today...it has to be of course that old Elvis song "You Ain't Nothin' But A Hound Dog" I don't even particularly like Elvis songs, but for some strange reason that one appeals to me...

Thanks oconnorjoy; he really is a character! I tell him I was never goofy until I met him. My husband starts choking in a corner on this, and I get treated to a wise, sad look from Mr. Blue
