Vet List Suggestions

Post by jason »

a database of cho (cathelp-online) user's vets for their area is currently being worked on.

we need your honest and careful help with this. please read this post and respond accordingly, follow the rules outlined as the database will be specific to what we are trying to accomplish.

we are looking for vets in your area that you currently use and have a good standing relationship with, somewhere you take your animals to in case of emergency or checkup. if you are aware of (what you consider) bad ones, keep it to yourself as this is not the intention of this post nor the database.

please respond to this topic in somewhat of the following format :
typical respondant wrote:vet clinic name
town/city, state
number of vets (and also staff size if you know)
known specialists and their field (if you know of any at that location)
hours of operation (also include emergency provisions, like a sister office that they coordinated with)
finally, a few short words on your general feeling...maybe a quick experince that stands out to you.
notice : i did not indicate a contact in form of a phone number, web address or otherwise...that is not needed. if someone is in your area, the phone book will get them along that next step.

thanks to all, we appreciate your help in achieving this task.

I'm very happy with our vet practice...

Ann Arbor Animal Hospital
Ann Arbor, MI
I think there are 6 vets there
Open from 7-7, although they now have a new clinic and are moving toward 24-hour vet presence and service for emergencies.
I selected them in the way Davet recommends; I asked dog owners in our first apartment building with Mr. Blue, and my co-workers, where they went. This group was most recommended.

I have lots of memories with them, but my first is that they got Mr. Blue cured of his heartworm. I trust the vets there to tell me the truth, even if it isn't complimentary to me or not what I WANT to hear. I've seen all the vets there, but there's a couple I like the best. Overall, though, I think they're all good! I'll provide more info for anyone who wants it.

Dr. Levy is the primary vet for my pets for more than 15 years; he has cared for `Eowyn since the day I got her, when she was exactly 6 weeks old... without Dr. Levy's counsel I could not have kept this large, hyper, "Alpha female" GSD... and Dr. L's being an active resident of my community plus being  one of the nicest, handsomest young fellas I know helps too. Actually, I've taken my pets here for over 25 years all told. Dr. Smith, semiretired now, cared for my pets for a number of years; he is considered one of the finest veterinary surgeons in the area, and since the hospital is only blocks from NOPD's K9 facility, he and Dr. Levy are most often called when a police dog is injured. Lakeview Vets Hospital's building is not large, but they have state-or-the-art diagnostic, surgical and care facilities. Emergency cases outside their hours can be taken without prior referral to Animal Emergency Clinic Inc. nearby in Metairie.

Also nearby: an excellent one-man small animal practice to which a member of my family takes his cat:

I suggest adding our veterinarian to the group, even we are in a low density population area (Custer, South Dakota). Her name is Dr. Sharon Senezco (formerly of Chicago) and she has one vet assistant, Sarah Thompson. She is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (except Wednesday when she closes at noon-usually for house calls).

We have to drive 45 miles to get to an emergency vet, so "Dr. Sharon" (as we all call her) will take emergency calls at her home. Please make sure you feel it is a true emergency. We don't want to "burn" her out so she won't take off hours calls. The next closest excellent vet is located in Rapid City named Dr. Susan Johnson. Dr. Sharon has recommended Dr. Johnson if she is out of town or just can't be reached. Sorry - I have no info on her - I've never used her. But if Dr. Sharon says she's good, she's good.

Dr. Sharon has a wonderful, caring personality and having worked in a large city, she knows (and continues to learn) new technologies. She loves both dogs and cats. As an example of her exemplary dedication, Dr. Sharon went to a former co-worker's house to help a very ill dog. The dog survived, but Dr. Sharon stayed there all day and missed Thanksgiving with her husband.

Dr. Sharon is also part of the Board of our Black Hills Mountain Lion Foundation to try to prevent extinction of the big cats (few in number anyway) in our area.

Please consider her for your list.

Thanks, Jason and Traci

Clinic Name: PetsVet of Aurora
Location: Aurora, CO
Number of vets: 3

I've been going to PetsVet for years, and these guys are just great! The staff is always friendly and the vets actually make an effort to properly explain what they are doing. On top of that, their prices are very reasonable and they give you accurate quotes up front.

A lot of info is on their site at
