Cat's teeth cleaned!

Had posted a few weeks back about whether to go ahead with Vet's recommendation to have my six year old black male cat's teeth cleaned.

Decided to do it. Cat spent a full day at the vet which included dropping him off early in the morning for a blood workup (was advised this is important in determining whether cat can safely get anesthesia).

All went well. Cat's teeth are really white. And there was no need for any extractions. As cat is a "young" and frisky six year old, I am glad that I didn't wait until he was older -- and hopefully he won't need it done again.

In talking with people, it's become apparent that dry food is so much better for good dental hygene vs. the wet stuff.

You wouldn't believe the total vet bill for the procedure. But my cat is worth it!!!

You did the right thing! My cat had to have two extractions when he went for his first dental visit! Now I brush his teeth every day and he hasn't had any problems since. Try getting your cat to accept having his teeth brushed. Most times they actually come to like it! Good luck!

just another opinion but i never did find that chewing dried food did much for the teeth, have had to clean teeth on moist food and dry food fed animals. i think it is more, as in humans, the consistency of the saliva...with dry crunch foodk, wyhen the tip of the tooth hits it the piece of food shatters and does not rub agains the shaft of the tooth...there was a food out a while back that was supposed to stay in tact when the tooth hits it so it would slide up on the tooth and rtub against the shaft preventing the plaque....what eveer food the best thins is to brush or rub the teeth with a cloth and baking soda...

that food you were talking about could be hill's prescription t/d (tooth diet). i feed it to my guys all the time. they love it and it has kept the plaque down on their teeth.
