Mr. Blue and I got to see the most incredible rainbow

Post by Mary Plummer »

yesterday, on our after-work walk. On our drive home from work, we had a really intense thunderstorm, complete with hail. By the time we were ready to walk, it had blown over already, so we headed out. I turned down the path to the park, and there was this absolutely perfect rainbow right in the sky in front of us! All of the colors were crisp and clear, and it looked just perfect! I wanted to stop and just look at it for a minute or two, but Mr. Blue had other things to do - his business, rabbit trails, etc. So we kept walking, but I burdened him with my rousing rendition of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" :D I felt that this had to be lucky somehow, that we really had been "blessed" in a way to witness it. I don't know anything about rainbow beliefs, so I'm not sure about that, but it felt that way. I did ask Mr. Blue how good he was at sniffing out pots of gold, and was treated to a classic Mr. Blue "I don't know what you're saying, but I like the sound of your voice" look. I told my hubby that when I got home, and his response was that both "my guys" are like that :D

That is why you need to carry a camera on those walks!

You know, I've often thought that, after I see something really fascinating. Of course, I never remember it the next time we go walking

Rainbow myths that I know.

IRIS was the Greek Goddess of the Rainbow... Like Hermes (Mercury) she was a messenger of the Gods.

Under proper Judeo-Christian thought, the rainbow is a symbol of the promise that God will not destroy the human race with a flood again. Later ideas were adopted from the Celtic and Norse myths. Under those, rainbows formed bridges between Heaven and Earth or whereever the Gods wished to travel. The souls of good people and animals traveled over these same rainbow bridges when they died. (Sounds familiar doesn't it.)

Here are some links to Rainbow myths.

Thanks Skeptic; these are fascinating! It seems like everyone is in agreement on some things, and I really do feel I was lucky and/or blessed to see one while walking with Mr. Blue!
