Question
I have a 13 year old part Siamese cat. A neutered male. Lately I have noticed he is vomiting liquid fur. Unlike fur balls, this is very watery and there is fur in it. They are eating Iams Lite, hair ball food, and they have puked very little when they are on this. But my male cat (his name is Norton), seems to be throwing up more lately. I have also noticed when he uses the litter box, he pees a flood every time, he also seems to be drinking more as well. I am not sure, but he looks a bit thinner to me too, although he does not appear to be ill. He is very active and still plays and bugs his sister Willow (our other cat). Just wondering if this is cause for a vet visit, or if it's just age. His last check up a few months ago the vet said he was healthy.
Re: Question
These are classic signs of renal failure and diabetes. Because your cat is geriatric, he is at the age where these conditions are more likely to occur. You need to make a vet appointment right away and have blood work performed. Good luck, and please let us know what you find out.I have also noticed when he uses the litter box, he pees a flood every time, he also seems to be drinking more as well. Re: Question
It goes hand in hand....any kitty over the age of 7 or 8 needs a yearly full blood profile to detect hidden illnesses common in senior kitties (renal, liver, heart, thyroid, etc)....Don't wait on this, get your kitty to your vet immediately and ask for a full geriatric panel, plus thyroid function testing and complete urinalysis.Nancy (Spuddie' s Mum) wrote:Just wondering if this is cause for a vet visit, or if it's just age
KK is correct, from your description these could all be the signs of early renal disease, the longer you wait, the more advanced it will progress (by the time renal failure is diagnosed, over 3/4 of the kidney function is lost)....Other conditions need to be ruled out as well.
