eyelids

Post by squeak281012 »

my cat when she opens her eyes there is somthing there that doesn't look right it is kind of gray in color but when she blinks a few times it is usually gone. But not to long ago i had a cat die just after having the same thing happen to his eyes. But as time went by that did not go away anymore just wondering what this could be. I looks kind of like a third eye lid.

the following is from the linked site:
>>>>>>
The cat’s eye possesses a third eye lid, also known as nictitating membrane or haw. It is a thin fold of skin that flicks diagonally across the eye, under the eyelid. It helps to lubricate the cornea by spreading tears across the eye and also has a protective function. In some cases when a cat is unwell the third eye lid will be visibly apparent, it is not completely clear why this occurs.<<<<<<

From reading this statement, I guess if the haw is visible for any length of time, it would be good to have your vet check for any health problems.

I agree it indicates something is wrong as in the cat being sick or having an eye problem. Please see your vet right away with this.

Let us know what happens at the vets.
