Question for Traci Re: Honeybun

Post by Mona »

Traci~

Honeybun who is 5 years old will have her annual physical in October.

She will have her distemper shot, fecal exam, weight etc. Is it time for a blood panel to be run to determine her organ and system health. I have been thinking about this and wondering if her glucose, thyroid, kidney functions are all normal.

Let me have your thoughts on what should be done if anything at this time.

Thanks so much,

Mona, Honeybun and Little Chloe

Unless she is outwardly showing signs of changing health or behavior or attitude, I think I would wait until next year. I usually recommend between 6-7 years of age, unless changes in any of the above occur suddenly. You know her best, if this is heavy on your mind, go ahead and opt for a general health profile, otherwise, I think it would be fine to wait until next year.

As you know, changes to be concerned about most would be weight loss/gain, behavioral changes, changes in attitude or activity, changes in appetite and litterbox changes.
