Well tonight is a long night for me. My dear sweet Oni is at the vet and will be neutered in the morning. This is the first night we've been apart since he joined our family in August of 2002. Oni has been an indoor cat from day 1. Never once has he showed any interest in going outside. Nor has he sprayed or howled and paced at the windows......until we moved last month.
Since then he has been a mess! None of us have had a decent nights sleep since it all started, sometimes its just meowing, sometimes its creepy deep howls, it goes on till morning. He's sprayed in several places around our new home, probably in more places than I've been able to find so far.
I'm hoping that the neutering will settle him down and stop the spraying. I'm concerned though because of his age. At approximately 17 months is he too old for it to make any difference?
I could use any and all advice and information that you are willing to share.
Thank you and take care : )
Will Neutering Help?
Re: Will Neutering Help?
You are definitely doing the right thing by neutering. It will help with spraying and calming your little guy down.
He will also be healthier and happier. So glad he is inside too!!
Good luck with the neutering and please post how he is doing afterwards.

Re: Will Neutering Help?
Thank you Mona. Neutering definetely helped! The spraying and howling has stopped and he's back to his old cuddly self. If anything he seems calmer and more affectionate since the surgery. He's every bit as playful as before, but it seems like a less aggresive play, less teeth and claws involved : )
Re: Will Neutering Help?
Just in case the spraying doesn't stop you might want to take the pre-caution of getting a black light and looking for all the spots he has peed in and throughly cleaning them with an enzymatic cleaner... But this is just a pre-cautionary idea, that might be useful if you feel that the spraying may continue...
