Vet List Suggestions

Post by jason »

a database of cho (cathelp-online) user's vets for their area is currently being worked on.

we need your honest and careful help with this. please read this post and respond accordingly, follow the rules outlined as the database will be specific to what we are trying to accomplish.

we are looking for vets in your area that you currently use and have a good standing relationship with, somewhere you take your animals to in case of emergency or checkup. if you are aware of (what you consider) bad ones, keep it to yourself as this is not the intention of this post nor the database.

please respond to this topic in somewhat of the following format :
typical respondant wrote:vet clinic name
town/city, state
number of vets (and also staff size if you know)
known specialists and their field (if you know of any at that location)
hours of operation (also include emergency provisions, like a sister office that they coordinated with)
finally, a few short words on your general feeling...maybe a quick experince that stands out to you.
notice : i did not indicate a contact in form of a phone number, web address or otherwise...that is not needed. if someone is in your area, the phone book will get them along that next step.

thanks to all, we appreciate your help in achieving this task.

millhopper veterinary medical center
gainesville, florida
6 vets (one of them is the owner/director)
m,tu,th,fr - 7:30am to 6:00pm ; wed - 7:30am to 8:00pm ; sat 8:00am to 2:00pm
all other hours are covered by the "affiliated pet emergency services" of which some of this clinic's staff also work there

millhopper vet's really have a caring attitude and are quite thorough about diagnostic and treatment. their office is very efficient and accomadating to last minute emergencies and such.

my rocky had a p/u there (had a specialist come to the clinic with many years experince) and the entire process/procedue could not of gone smoother.

I use a cat only vet. SHe is wonderful, there are two vets in the practice and they always personally call you back no matter what the issue is.

The Cat Doctor
Estero, Florida

Hours: 7:30 to 5:30 M-F
8:00 am to 12 Noon Sat

I take both my cats there and she does surgery other than no orthopedic surgeries. She is caring, and gentle and very thorough.

Jason- on one of the websites I am involved in Meowhoo.com there is a list of feline only vets. They have all been recommended to us and you are welcome to use them in your list. You will find them here, and no, there are not that many- but as I said they are checked out before being added:

Provincetown Animal Hospital
Provincetown, MA
1 Vet (we’re a small town)
M-F 9-2 S 9-noon; House calls in the afternoon
When we had to put our cat Zydeco to sleep in April, Dr. Pappalardo came to our house to do the procedure. He thoroughly explained the procedure and stayed with us afterward to make sure we were ok. We’ve been with him for 8 years now, and he’s always been an excellent vet and compassionate person

Comer Vet Clinic
Comer, GA

4 vets (two full time, two half time), staff of 7-8 vet techs on duty throughout the day; grooming service also available within the clinic, performed by professional groomers

All vets on staff specialize in small animals, and the head vet also deals with large animals mainly because she grew up on and still operates her own farm.
One of the vets, newly hired and newly out of vet school, focuses on exotic pets.

M-F 8:00-5:30, Sat 8:00-12:30

Very quick to refer to the University of Georgia for emergencies (minutes away) that can't be handled with their resources

I always schedule my appointments with Dr. Hart (the head vet). Not only does she know what she's doing, but it is very obvious she loves the animals she sees and wants only the best for them. (She's not just doing a "job" - she considers it her calling in life to help animals.) She loves on the animals; cries when they're hurting, and hugs you when you need a shoulder to cry on. She wants updates on ALL the animals in the house when you bring just one in, and asks about them specifically by name.

Dr. Hart, the head vet remembers ALL of my pets' names (even Lily, who died three years ago), as well as their middle names, AND my parents' pets, my sister's pets, my brothers' pets, etc.... without even having to think about them - even when I haven't seen her in months. She also remembers personal information about ME, too! And she's this way with all pets and owners. Her memory for details is impeccable. Any time we go in for checkups or treatments, she takes the time to explain everything thoroughly, and her bedside manner with the animals is incredible. If I ever had cause to move to the other side of the earth, I'd still make a trip to Comer, GA each year to bring my cats to her for their check-ups and veterinary care.

The staff treat the animals like they're human children. You can hear them (through the walls) saying things like, "It's ok sweetie.... I know it hurts....we're gonna make you better...."

On a scale of 1-10, they're a 14.

Sears Veterinary Hospital
Lancaster, CA

They are open, as far as I know for walk-ins, 9am-12pm and 3pm-6pm M-F, and do take emergencies. Dr. Sears is a caring and engaging man and will answer any question you have. The clinic is closed in the afternoon for surgeries and such. The staff there is small, but excellent. I think that most of his patients are dogs, because when we've been there, the place is usually full of dogs. We've only ever seen one other cat there - however, Dr. Sears seems to have more of a soft spot for kitties.

Apache Animal Hospital
2503 37th Avenue NE
Minneapolis, MN 55421
I don't know the number of vets or number of specialist.
I believe its a cat/kitten & dog/puppy clinic only.
Mon, Tues, Fri - 8am to 6pm
Wed, Thur - 8am to 8pm
Sat - 8am to 1pm
I've gone to the same vet every time. My kitty really likes her and so do I. They're very loving and excited about their work and about animals. Veterinary Care Since 1974. My boyfriends mom also takes her 15 year old cat there also. She's a grumpy girl but she doesn't mind it there at all. :)
