should we get another kitty?

Post by 2_sox_squared »

i have a neutered male, all indoor kitty who will turn one year old on september 11. we've had him since october 25th, his name is Linus. i recently got an internship at a local animal shelter and am toying with the idea of getting another kitty. Linus gets along well with the golden retriever that i dogsit. he stays here at the apartment when i sit him. Linus also got along with a full-grown male and female that live with members of my family. they live separatly, he stayed with them a few times when we were out of town. the last time that he stayed with other cats was in march, he was about six months old. i am just wondering ya'lls opinions on getting another kitten. i found one that i like that looks like he/she (not sure yet which) is about five months old. i prefer male kitties, in my personal experience, i've found that they are cuddlier and friendlier. should i get a new kitty, if so any suggestions on age/*beep*? thanks! :o [/i]

If you do decide to get a new kitten, introduce them to each other gradually and make sure before they even touch noses that the new kitty has been vet checked. There are so many cats that need a home, have you thought about an older cat, being that you work and will be away from home and kittens are so rambunctious as they grow?

I think getting another cat is a great idea. I agree too, that males seem more cuddly and I have many males and they get along better than the females get along. A kitten would probably make a smoother introduction but that is not saying that you can't intoduce an adult into your home. Your best bet is to choose on the basis of personality.
