We lost one of the four small kittens :(

Post by Tina B and crew »

Bacterial overgrowth...diarrhea....14 of the strays being fostered (all were together at one point of another) developed it this week. Don't even get me started on one of the vet's (the one working at the time) lack of compassion for the strays. :x I did talk with the vet tech last night and she agrees...fortunatley last night one of the "caring" vets was in and she was going to look at all the kittens with diarrhea. We do know that one of the cats in the clinic had giardia...so it's possible that is what these kittens have. At any rate, they are out of my hands...I took them to the clinic last night and their original foster is taking them back.

Tina, I'm so sorry about your baby cat and the others. That's so distressing. :(

I'm so sorry, Tina.

The only way to know is getting a fecal occult done, this can also rule out salmonella, coccidia too, that should be done first and foremost. I know you no longer have them, but in the event the vet didn't think to do it, you might call and ask the tech to...

and I feel angry too about a vet that is not symphathetic. Not what you need right now. Please let me know if you find out anything more. It's nice to know details. I never know when I will find a baby here. I remember my vet telling me that a combo of certain parasites can be deadly. So when I found my litter the vet gave them oral antiparasite meds and then injections, like a series of them. I can't remember how long the series was though or exactly what the meds were. But he said the combo of the oral and the injections was important because lots of tiny ones can die from a combo of certain parasites. I wish I could remember more details but that time with no sleep is a big blur. I am so sorry about your little one. (((HUGS)))
