Breed guesses on this guy?????

Post by DeVon »

I was told a husky mix before I went to get pictures. This guy was a stray, already neutered, and such a sweet dog. He loves other dogs, cats, and never barks. Very gentle. He looks rather scroungy right now, was loaded with intestinal parasites and underweight. The long hair really threw me for a loop. He was very matted and they did have to cut some of the mats out, so he looks kind of funny. His name is Gus. I just don't see the husky in him. He's 67 pounds, very leggy from the back, and just as tall as the foster mom's GSD. I have to work today, but will check back in late this afternoon.

The profile looks Golden Retriever, but the front shot doesn't. I'm thinking Golden X Pit/Staffordshire. The hair looks coarse - if so, maybe some wire-haired breed in there too?

The ears, eyes and coat make me think there's collie in there somewhere.

My first impression when I walked in to see him was an overgrown funny looking wire-haired terrier mix. The one thing I really noticed when looking at him from behind is his hind legs are very similar in stance/proportion to an airedale terrier's.

No matter what the mix, he's a very sweet fellow. I just wanted to get some feedback on possible breed mixes! How is your fur gang getting along? :)

Allie is a P.I.T.A. and has to be the center of attention (as usual). Angel is her usual sweet self, but has been whiny lately. Mickey seems to be getting weaker, but is still full of spunk. His appetite has decreased at breakfast time, but I've increased the amount I feed him at night to compensate, and that seems to suit him. "The Alien" went home last Friday, and I think that's why Angel is so whiny - she fussed at him, but he really gave her alot of attention and I think she misses it (and him!). Thanks for asking.

What's the story on the dog you asked about? I definitely think there is Golden in there - the profile and coat color are classic Golden. As for the rest - well, who knows?

All I can see for certain is the Golden, especially the head. My fur crew is okay, thanks for asking... but I aren't and am trying to run from it over to Austin where I can get in on their problems for a change... Nan says I can even bring Q so I will drive the T Wagon with cat in cage and GSD in the back seat... and several tons of gear and stuff. Nan said I can bring home her Brit versions of Harry Potter, but only if I can find her bootleg Brannaugh's Henry V :? which I haven't the slightest idea what it is - does she mean she left it here with my books? or thinks I can go search Uptown book shops? Or maybe it isn't a book? Who knows... Stay tuned. Oh, and I'm supposed to be getting a Mac laptop if son has time to program it... Guess this should be on Kevin's Room... but anyway... interesting doggy pics!

Gus was a stray who had showed up at a home out in the country and stayed for several days. No one showed up looking for him, so the family brought him on into the humane society.

Glad your crew is doing okay, give that Mickey an extra special hug for me. Having three seniors myself (tho none can match Mickey in age), I have a rather large soft spot for the oldsters. :D

You are a truly brave woman! Hope the trip goes smoothly for you, and Q isn't too miffed about taking a little drive! Give that beautiful Miss Winnie a hug for me :D

For sure he is what we call a "reservation thoroughbred." He has some dominant Golden genes but is evolving toward the "natural dog."
