Hello all, I was wondering if there is any place in NYC where I could get free or really cheap micro chipping for about 15 to 20 cats. My neighbor finds a lot’s of cats she takes them all to the vet and pays for all the food, other stuff. She sometimes finds cats, kittens that have been abandoned on street and sometimes the cats are sick. She tries to find homes for them and when no one wants the cat because it doesn’t have eye or leg, she takes care of them. They are mostly outdoor cats and they stay out for the most of the day. They come in to house to eat and sleep but now she is having a problem with a new neighbor who doesn’t like the cats and says she doesn’t want them any where near her lawn. She called animal control and they took a cat. I felt really bad for my neighbor because she ran down to animal control and got the cat back on time. Now my neighbor is worried that some day she wouldn’t be home or may be out of town and the animal control will take the cats. And she will be able get there in time to save the cats. I hated to see her like that and now she said she will get them all chipped but the chip cost about $25 each I think, I’m not sure. And for that many cats it will run here about $375 to $500 which is a lot of money. I just wanted to help her out in some way, so if anyone knows of a cheap or free chipping place in NYC, please let me know. I would greatly appreciate it, Thank you.
PS: here is the pic of the cat that my mom found and yes we are going to keep him
free or cheap micro chipping ??????
Re: free or cheap micro chipping ??????
Contact all the rescue organizations in your area, most rescue orgs get substantial discounts on microchips, and will pass on the discount to you. Also call all vets in the area to compare prices.
As for your angry neighbor, educate her. Tell her you/your friend are involved in rescue, and check your city animal ordinances. If you have feral cat management programs in your city, or know of feral cat caretakers, you can tell your neighbor (and the shelter) that you are caretakers for a feral cat colony. (again, check your city's animal ordinances, laws, etc, look for feral cat program information, etc). Some ordinances state limits on the number of animals one can have on their property within city limits, so check the ordinances.
If your friend owns the property, then she should invest in an outdoor structure (cat enclosure) to keep the cats from escaping her yard into her neighbor's yard. This would help keep the neighbor from complaining.
