Great cat toys for a large cat?

Post by drunkmike »

I have a 2 year old longhaired kitty that is VERY playfull when it comes to me chasing him around and what not, but what are some good playtoys that he can keep himself entertained with when I'm not home? I'm used to giving a dog a chew toy and them being satisfied for hours on end but what do I get for kitty? He has a circle thing with a ball in it that he loves to swat at, a few small catnip toys that he throws all over the house and chases like a dog and some plastic balls with bells in them that he usually keeps me up at night with. What else could I get him?

Be careful with those plastic balls that have bells inside, some plastics are so cheap they can be broken quiet easily, the bells can fall out and if kitty ingests them, this could be disastrous.

My cats love small stuffed animals (please remove face parts or any other strings, etc before allowing your kitty to play with them). They also love their cat trees, scratching posts and catnip toys. As for the cat-track you already have, a similar play "station" like these are available at pet stores, they are like an "activity station" that contain a few different toys, a scratch pad attached, a groom brush attached, etc all on one unit. If you opt for ever getting a cat tree, make sure the base is heavy and sturdy, some cat trees are unstable and can fall over and hurt a kitty if the base and structure is not sturdy.

our cats absolutely love the scratching post we got...it was at WalMart...the base is carpeted and then the pole that comes off of that is sisel (sp)---like a twine...
it had a twirly thingie on top with a mouse hanging from it, but that did not last long...better to not bother to put that on...

also there are toys that look like a round tunnel with a few holes in the top and sides and a ball inside...I will sometimes have 2-3 cats laying on the floor batting that ball around...

Then again...another cat is always a good option  ...just be sure it is healthy and up on immunizations and you take the proper time and allowances to properly introduce them to each other!!

I have a few scratching posts around the house for him and even though he was declawed when I got him, he still loves digging on them! I really want to get him a tree to climb up on, but I need to get rid of my huge 100gallon bearded dragon tank I have first and then I'll have some room for it.

do you still have the dragon too?!

I would LOVE to get a couple of Chinese Water Dragons when I get the tropical house set up...it is nice to dream...get them when they are little and get them used to handling, and then when they get big enough, let them roam around in that room...set up a heat rock pad for them...some flowing water...how cool would that be..

sorry to get off topic
