Hi all,
This is my first post and my cat made me look for board to post on.
I have two cats: Gunner and Taylor. Gunner is 6 or 7 and Taylor is almost 2. Gunner has always been the lovebug/lap cat. Taylor has always been more independent and would come get attention when he felt like it. He never liked to lay on my lap or chest. He always like to snuggle up with my feet when they are kicked up on the ottoman. Lately, he has been crawling up on me and laying on my chest and purring like crazy. It just made me wonder why his attitude has changed.
Any ideas?

Guilty conscience? What's he done lately?

On a more serious note, sudden behavioral changes could indicate a hidden illness...even good behavioral changes. If he hasn't had a recent vet check (within last 6 months to a year), and/or if he has had any unusual health symptoms, get him checked promptly.

Hey got his rabies shot and booster shots in October. The vet said he was in perfect health and was at the right weight. Do you think I should bring him in? I don't sense that he is sick because he is still playful and normal in every other aspect.

Well, you have to discern if he is actually beginning to be "affectionate" with you, or if he is being "clingy" with you. If clingy, and if it was a sudden development, then this may indicate the need for a vet check.
I would advise watching him carefully in the next couple days...meaning watch his appetite, monitor his food intake, water intake, litterbox habits, his interactions with you (and other members of the family), and interactions with the other cat, his attitude, etc. If there are any other sudden or abnormal "developments", then don't wait, get him seen.

Thanks Traci for your advise. You are right.... he could be clingy instead of affectionate. I'll be keeping an eye on him.
