Scared new adopted kitty

Post by CWaters425 »

I recently adopted a 5month on kitty. I already have a 7month on kitty that I also adopted. The cats are getting along fine, running around, playing, rolling around. My 7 month has been "grooming" the new comer. My question is. The new baby kitty seems really skiddish. When we first brought he home she was that way and I thought she would come around. Its been a little over a week, and like sometimes when im laying down for bed, i see her sneaking around checking things out and ill reach my hand had to pet her and she sniff for a sec and then i can pet her. but other times, she'll be in the hallway and ill be 15ft away from her and walk by and she gets so scared she takes off and hides under the bed. or i'll reach down to pick her up and she huckles down like she is so afraid, or ill pick her up and lay down with her and immidatly she will take off and go hide. is there any way to make her more social and not be so afraid of everything?

Thanks,

Chris & Danielle

Sometimes it takes a while for them to get over their fear. A week is not that long. I've seen some take over a month and in fact I know of one dog that took over a year.

It sounds like she is not afraid when you are lying down, but is afraid when you are standing or bending over. Imagine how big you look from her perspective. Maybe try lying down on a blanket or rug at her level. See if that makes her feel more at ease. Also, I've heard that if you make sure she sees you put down the food, and rub your hands on the bowl to give it your scent, she will associate you with food, which to a cat always equals love. :D Good luck!
