Well, We had OUR Excitement for the Day!

Post by Tambrey »

As you know...Sammie is our inside doxie and we also have Taz and Mysti, who cohabitate on the back enclosed and heated porch with a large attached run...they do not play together because Taz and Mysti have been known to kill woodchucks and a couple of cats who got into their yard...but for them to come into the house with our cats, they never have a problem...only when something gets into their territory...Taz and Mysti (Mystique) are collie/lab mixes and FULL of energy and are quite large...both near to 100 pounds...and well over knee high...

Well, my husband is on the desktop, I am on the laptop and had Gypsy, my old lady purring in my lap, and my son is watching Eraser in the Living Room...

Suddenly, there was a white and gray blur at my side, as I saw a brown blur run into the living room...we never heard the door open, and the baby gate between the kitchen and rest of the house was not latched, so, when they discovered the door had not been tightly shut, in they came!!

Mysti just sniffed at Gypsy then ran into the living room after Taz...my poor son was trying to keep them away from Sammie as we were trying to get out of chairs and in there with him!!...
I grabbed Sammie, my son got Taz, his dog anyways, and my husband got Mysti...but there was never any barking or commotion or anything...sooooo...we decided we may as well try the introductions...I put Sammie on a non-retractable leash, and my husband put Taz on a leash...Mysti went back outside for now...then we brought Sammie back into the living room...
Sammie came in, tail wagging, at the thought of maybe a new playmate...and Taz ran behind my husband and tried to hide!...hahaha...
but soon they were sniffing each others rears ends and licking noses and Sammie even stood on his hind legs to get closer to Taz...the cats could care less because when the pups were younger, they were in the house all the time, but preferred it outside...
Then we brought Mysti in, and Sammie was afraid of her...the only thing I can think is that Taz is brown but Mysti is white with gray spots, so maybe the colouring threw Sammie off...I don't know...but he was the one trying to hide behind me, but after about 10 minues, he began to wander closer and attempt to sniff at her when she was not looking...

Anyways...they are back outside now...and we are going to look at getting an additional latch for the back door...they are too smart and figured out the screen door, and even when the main door is locked, sometimes it does not always latch...
