Not being sure whether I should take Khanada with us, 800 miles...or if it would be best for her to stay here with her "mama" Bridget? Last Friday I took her over to the townhouse while we did some work in it getting ready for the movers on Saturday. Of course we ended up not doing a lot of work but playing with Khanada
At first I wasn't so sure...she thought the pantry was suppose to be her new permanent home and wouldn't come out
After a while she finally decided to think about checking out the rest of the place....
She ran around and sniffed every crook and cranny, checked out every spot she could jump on or hide in. She was more vocal that I had ever heard her! I finally knew she was probably going to be OK when she started rollling on the floor
By the end of the day she was very comfortable with the place, playing with her toys, eating, using the litter box...no problems at all. So I took her home that night and thought I would take her back on Saturday evening after the movers had left and everything had calmed down. It was late before that happened so I told Bridget I'd feel better waiting until Sunday when I knew we'd have time to spend helping her adjust.
So Sunday afternoon I packed Khanada up and took her over. Again it was just me and Bridget, however her other two cats, Levi and Lily were there too. Khanada came right out of her carrier and started exploring again. Of course when she saw Levi and Lily she hissed, then they hissed, then she hissed...but then she went on her way and checked everything out. She was doing great, playing and rolling..very comfortable...until...Bridget's BF and his parents came over. At that point it got loud, Khanada freaked out at all the strange people and ran and hid up in the stairwell.
She stayed there until Bridget opened the bedroom door and then she ran under the bed. So we left her there and went out to eat. When they got back home she was still there..they had to take the mattress and box spring off to get her out. I told Bridget to confine them in seperate rooms overnight, but she couldn't catch Khanada so she set up her blanket and familiar things in a corner of the dining room.
Yesterday morning Khanada was still hiding and very nervous, but the other cats were just fine it seemed. So I told Bridget to catch Khanada and confine her to the bathroom with her things so she could calm down without having to worry about every noise...plus she was having a TV delivered and I didn't want Khanada to bolt out the door. I decided I better go up, because Khanada is use to having me around. When I got there, after the TV delivery, we let her out and she was fine! She's eating, drinking, using the litter box, curling up on furniture and sleeping. Her and Levi are able to be in the same room and not hiss any longer (before they would hiss at the sight of each other).
Levi checking out the camera:
Lily on the other hand is still hiding in the spare bathroom upstairs. But she has all her food, bedding, water and a litter box with her. I hope once she sees that Levi is OK with the situation that she will decide it's OK.
Keep your fingers crossed!! I miss that cat But I know her mama is happy to have her around

Traci...you better believe it!! After I had posted and you expressed concern about her going to a totally strange place as opposed to at least being with more familiar things, albeit an 800 mile trip, I was really nervous about trying this. But I thought it couldn't hurt to try it while I'm still here and see how she does. The option of taking her with us was still open, although it was becoming less feasible as time went by. We are going to be living in very small living quarters for a while and I didn't relish having to coop 4 cats up in those quarters I am sooooo relieved that she is adjusting so quickly. And she is asserting herself as the dominat cat..but I knew she'd do that
Ash...her face is what my daughter fell in love with when she saw her as a kitten...as soon as she looked at her she said "that cat is mine!" It's been love every since

She sounds like she's adjusting well, after just a couple of days. I know it can take much longer sometimes. I'm glad it's working out for you.
