Last pic of the blooming tree....
A last picture of the Blooming tree.
Why is it the last picture you ask. I will answer that later. First some good pics.
Pea Pod, otherwise known as the Peepster, sticking her tongue at teh world.
Dottie enjoying a little stroll.
Ginger looking through the window and nose prints at Prince.
Tropical storm Cindy roared through last night with higher winds than predicted. (Many sites recorded sustained winds of 80 mph, making it a class 1 hurriane, not a tropical storm., But they were not 'official' stations.) We didn't get much rain, but woke this morning to this.
Here is a closer look at the center of damage.
As you can see from the previous two photos, the main trunk is split lengthwise. It is possible the tree cannot be saved. We planted that tree along with an oak and a Japanese plum tree when we moved here in 1981. The other two did not last a year.
The dogs of course enjoyed the change and investigated areas that they normally could not reach.
After coming home and feeding the dogs, the cleanup began under the watchful eye of the dogs. It took 6 of those 65 gallon bags to hold what we removed tonight.
After clearing the major dangling branches we quit for tonight. Tomorrow I will tackle the truck, after studying it to determine how best to proceed. we are considering just cutting it all down and getting a new plant.
I will end on a lighter note. Who can guess the owner of this nose? You may consider this the ultimate nose pic. Those that don't know us may accuse us of picking our noses!

Nooo, it's clearly a female nose! Your wife?
Aaaww, sorry about your beautiful tree, Sceptic! I would cut it down and wait if the trunk catches on again. They often do (I mean trees in general, don't know about this one).

Oh Skeptic.......I feel so sad for your tree. I was amazed to see that the trunk is not very wide to carry the weight of such a heavy mass of flowers and foliage.
I hope you can save it.

It is multible trunks. When we first got it, I didn't know enough to remove the suckers coming up from the roots until they formed a complex of trunks.CrystalsMom wrote:Oh Skeptic.......I feel so sad for your tree. I am so sorry about the damage to the beautiful crepe myrtle... hope it wasn't jinxed by we who were coveting it ... At least you know now that spot in your yard is good for growing this type tree! Hint hint, my next fave after the red is the lavender, like over here in the neutral ground of Wisner Boulevard along Bayou St. John...
TS Cindy took a branch off my live oak. The other large tree in my backyard is is a "river" or "laurel" oak, which is slightly different from the classic Louisiana live oak. Said branch dented the old patio cover and is still across the path. In the side yard there is the remainder of a larger branch which Ivan tore off the laurel oak and dropped on said patio cover last September... *sigh*... and now Hurricane Dennis...
My server was down from Tuesday night until 5:45 this evening - another gift from TS Cindy and reason I haven't been online... power in my house was only off from Tusday night until about 10:20 yesterday AM, but son's house next door and those in his block still have no power.
I think the Mystery Nose belongs to Pea Pod!

I am sorry about your Crepe Myrtle. It looked so beautiful until the storm. Ours battle the winds of hurricanes too. The branches or parts of the trunk break off but they recover and re-grow. We got a second Crepe Myrtle years ago when my brother broke a large branch off our original one. We stuck it in the ground and it grew! Cold is much harder on them, we are borderline for growing them here in the mountains of Virginia.

I knew it was Ivory! really, that's what I meant to say don't know why I confuse the names of those two dogs... aging brain under stress of storm season maybe. Also, now that I look at the pics again, it seems your tree's blossoms are lavender... could have sworn they were red. Anyway, glad the tree will survive.and the nose is
(DRUM ROLL!)
Ivory's Nose! Don't ya know we have to have an Ivory pic each time!
Oh, Skeptic, so sorry about that beautiful tree...I know you like it a lot.
ps- just read earlier post...
Glad you can grow another tree...loved seeing the pictures of it. I lost a couple of trees this year and hate when that happens.

so it pays to keep suckers aroundThe tree is safe, but not as full as before. I am going to direct a new sucker to fill the empty spot.
