Introducing Sammie
Introducing Sammie
Okay, I am sorry...I do not have pcis yet...our friends took some today and I am waiting for them to e-mail them...without DH finding out about him yet...
sshhhhh....DH does not know about Sammie yet...hehehe...
here is Sammie's story and how he will become a part of our family...
Today, Mom and I were in Petco getting Sophia a new collar, leash and some food to try...we were in line and the guy ahead of us was getting dog food...he saw Sophia and asked if we wanted another just like her...I asked if he was kidding and where could we get one...he said he had one in his vehicle that was on his way to the Humane Society He and his wife just had a premie baby (32 weeks) and they were not able to give Sammie the attention he needs, or will need after the baby comes home, so he was sadly taking him back to the shelter that he rescued him from a little over a year ago...
I took Sophia out to the parking lot, he got Sammie out and it was instant love...Sammie is about 2 pounds bigger than Sophia, but is also red in colour like she is...
Soooo...I borrowed his carrier because no way could we handle two loose in the car daschshunds!!...I will get it back to him this weekend...he also gave me the bag of food he has just bought, as well as a half gone one (All Science Diet) plus some treats and the leash...he said when I bring the carrier back, he also has nail clippers and toys and his bed that I can have...
I asked him if I owed him anything and he said no because he was going to give a donation to the shelter along with the food and stuff when he took Sammie in, so I was saving him money in the end...
We went to our friend's house, as we were planning on going over and introducing Sophia to their Cuddles (a black and red daschshund), so Sammie went as well...they all got along great, romping in the backyard together, and Sammie adjusted very well...
NOW...we are going back there this evening for Teen Bible Study, so we left Sammie there with Cuddles for the afternoon, rather than bringing him home, then taking him out again this evening because I do not want to leave him to fend for himself alone with ten cats Soooo...we will get there, DH will see TWO doxies at our friend's house, and be very envious because he has wanted one since he met Sophia...then when it is time to go, I will get Sammie's carrier from the garage and tell him its time to go home now...hahaha...I cannot wait to see DH and DS faces, because neither one knows that we have Sammie!!
I will post pics tonight or tomorrow, depending on when I get them...our friend took pics of all 3 dogs romping together...
gotta get this posted before DH sees it...he is home right now!

BEWARE, that is how it starts. Before you know it, you have 13, 14 and 15 dogs! (Voice of Experience.)
Re: Introducing Sammie
We are home from Bible Study with Sammie DH was thrilled to death...we sat there ALL evening long with these two dogs (theirs and "ours") running around and playing, or climbing onto laps for attention, and DH thought Sammie was great...we never let on...
When it was time to go, DH was telling Sammie goodbye, and I went and got his carrier and leash and asked DH to put Sammie into his carrier...DH asked why, and I said so we can take him home DH stood there with this dumbfounded look on his face, and I started laughing and said, "He is ours, let's take him home!" DH fell to the floor in a heap of hugs and kisses with Sammie...
DS was happy as well...but then his reaction once in the car was, "Great, we just get rid of a dog and get another one"...but he likes Sammie also...
I left the camera in the car and am not going back out there tonight, but most of the pics are on our friends' camera so they will need to e-mail them to us...
Sammie is busy exploring, tail wagging 100 miles a minute and cats wanting to play with it...hahaha...but since our cats are so used to dogs, they are not bothered by him...and his owner earlier today said they have a 17 pound cat at home, so Sammie is used to cats as well...
I am about ready for bed, but not sure what time DH will come to bed...hahaha...he is trying to decide where Sammie will sleep...we keep our doors shut so we can sleep...elsewise we would have ten cats climbing on us all night long!!

Re: Introducing Sammie
PS...Skeptic...I think that is how we have ended up with ten cats so far...hahaha...
and noooo...I would have never believed we would have TWO new doxies in less than a week...now our friend's are praying for another one...they said if Sammie does not work out, they will take him...BUT...I have a friend who is going through a bad divorce...right now her STBX has them, but they have TWO doxies who are due to be parents...again...July 9th...and if her STBX has to move, he will have to find a home for the dogs because she cannot take them either...

Re: Introducing Sammie
I like stories like that! What a day for Sammy! On the way to the shelter his owner meets you of all people. How lucky can one get? Sophia and Sammy, the two luckiest dogs of the week. This all somehow feels like destiny.
Re: Introducing Sammie
Tambrey...please get the veterinary records from the man you dealt with..if he doesn't have any, I'd be slightly suspicious, and would strongly advise getting Sammie to a vet ASAP for an exam, testing if necessary and appropriate vaccinations....you truly need to know he is up-to-date on vaccinations and is healthy, etc.

Re: Introducing Sammie
Hi Traci...yep, he had the current records from the same vet we use for our emergency vet in the city and he is up on all his shots and neutered...
I have already given them to our local vet as I took Sammie in this morning...he is fine, except his toenails were a bit too long, and since I can clip cats easy enough, but have not done dogs (Oliver bit his off and Scooby got his ground down) I asked the vet to help me...one would think Sammie was being tortured or something, so he said to bring him in weekly and we will just keep doing it until he is okay with it and used to having his nails clipped...I am not sure what the previous owner did because he told me when I bring back the carrier he will give me the nail clippers and toys and stuff...
Thanks...it does make you wonder when they just "appear" like that...but his story all meshed...he even wore a pink hospital ID bracelet on his wrist...

Sammie all pooped out (and no, the red is NOT what you may think...it is part of the design on the pillow he was laying on!)

Well, next time, include that vital information! You KNOW how I am! (rant rant)
Just teasing. I love giving you a bad time.
Priceless pics, looks like hubby and Sammie are a perfect match
