I have had a medium-haired male black cat since he was a kitten (Gary, from SpongeBob). He's 2 years old now. He's never been very sociable with humans but has always acted fine around other cats. Yesterday I brought home a female that's close to a year old. They are both spayed/neutered and don't go outside. They absolutely hate eachother!! She's been hiding under the couch a lot and whenever she comes out, he starts growling and hissing at her. She's hissed a few times, probably in defense, but otherwise seems very scared of him (he's declawed, she's not). I have no idea what to do. Is there any way they will get used to eachother and be normal housemates? I so wanted them to be friends. I wasn't expecting this at all. Help please!!

My old cat hates my new cat...HELP!!
Re: My old cat hates my new cat...HELP!!
Jen, see this post for Feline Introductions.
It's normal behavior for them to hiss, spit and growl during initial introductions, this will take time and patience for them to adjust to each other and learn to tolerate each other, it may take anywhere from a week to over a month.
Has the female been examined by your vet, tested for FELV/FIV and been vaccinated accordingly?
