Obsessive Licking!

Post by Squrrrl »

My older cat (Maximus) who is 1.5 years old obsessivly licks the new kitten. I can tell the kitten doesn't always like it cuz he squirms and whines sometimes.

Is there any reason for concern? Should I "rescue" the kitten or leave them be?

Both cats are male. Kitten is 14 weeks old.

I have a female who became a surrogate mom to a kitten I brought in about a year ago...Tiglet took to licking Baby Roo, and she still does to this day, even though he is now bigger than she is

When he had had enough, he will begin to growl, and if she wants to, she will let him up, elsewise, she growls back and sticks her paw on his head and continues to groom him, at which point he just lays there and takes it...twitching his tail the entire time!!

I figured even when he was a baby (and he did not even know how to lap formula when we found him, we had to feed him until he figured that out) but anyways, I figured that when he had enough, he would find a way to get away, and he usually does...

I think even when he pretends he wants to get away, and she "forces" him to stay for a bath, he really does not mind so much!

However, if you feel your baby is getting a raw end of the deal, literally, you might try just separating them when the older ones gets to aggressive in the licking, or the younger one seems distressed by it...give the older one a stuffed animal or find some other distraction for him...

Ya Max does the arm thing too to keep him there for more of a bath. Kitten was at the vet today so maybe Max was being extra obsessive to get the "scent" off of him.

Thanks for settling my heart :)

That could very well be....I know when one of ous comes home from the vet, the others follow it all over sniffing at sure it is a cat that should be in their home!!

I hope all continues to go well between the two...sometimes it takes alot of time for adjustments to be made!
